I’m curious and have always wondered…what is a good average amount to donate to the hunt staffs Christmas gift?. Most hunts ask for a cash donation and present it to the professional staff on Boxing Day in a combined check. I’ve noticed no one ever talks about how much they’ve given and that IS quite private of course but…what would be a good amount to give from a single member.?? I know we should give what we can afford or what we feel etc but no one ever talks about an actual dollar amount…is it that varied?
Have your hunts ever made any suggestions? What ranges might be appropriate? $50 maybe? I know what I’ve given in the past but I wanna keep current in trends and this is one we never seem to talk about.
Can we here? Should we not?
Thanks everyone!
I know the important thing IS to give and I will. Just curious!
If your hunt has 100% participation, then even 20$ is good. Alas it seems not everyone will give, so that puts more burden on the others making them feel like they need to give more.
I think 20$ is good, 50$ is great and anything more, just WOW!
Thanks!
See I thought so…kinda sliding scale by ability to pay so to speak?!! Also I figure members should be more generous than anyone else as they are the true beneficiaries of the huntsman/prof. whips skills imho!!
Do any hunts give organized gifts to the MFH’s? I know some of us choose the personal gift or joke gift thing!
We are all about 100% participation, although no one but the treasurer knows who and how much. We suggest $50 per individual/adult family member, $25 per limited/student/child family member and that social members contribute as they feel appropriate.
But again, no one knows and let your conscience be your guide!
I haven’t ever asked anyone else what they give, but we usually give $150-200 to our main Hunt (which is split amongst the huntsman, prof whip, and kennelman), and $75-100 to our secondary hunt (we regularly cap with them and are social members). I think $50 is sort of the “standard” gift amount around here per person.
No such thing here in New Zealand - and I can’t see the idea taking on either! Would certainly make our Christmas that wee bit brighter if it did though :D:yes:
I think it works here because we are in the middle of our season. I could see where it would be out of sight out of mind if Christmas was during our off season.

Cool!
Excuse me Miss CarrieK - thats Her Royal Highness Hunting Princess Wateryglen to you please!!
I’m liking all these answers and it’s feeling like I’m in the neighborhood with my thoughts…always a comforting feeling for those of us rather …“scattered” or “One french fry short of a Happy Meal”!!!
