Cimarron Western Saddle - info/price

A few years ago I obtained a Cimarron Western saddle from a friend. Given that I ride English, I don’t know much about it and was hoping for some more info. IT is light oil, 16" seat, basketweave all over, some silver, suede seat, great fleece, turned stirrups, great shape overall. Left side strap holder stamped Cimarron, but no model number. I have ridden in it a few times and it is very comfortable, but I am short and can’t get the stirrups to go short enough to be fully comfortable in it.

How do I tell what type of western it is (roping, pleasure, trail, etc)?
Any idea as to price range for an excellent condition saddle?

Thanks for any helpful comments! Nicole.

Any pics you could share?

The skirt type would help you narrow it down to a couple of different things – is the skirt square or rounded? Here’s an image to help.

Horn style, seat depth, etc, would also help to narrow it down. Here’s a website to help for for that.

ETA: Oh and…not sure if this applies to your saddle, but some of them have the serial number and such tooled on the inside of the stirrup leathers. Unbuckle the stirrup hobbles (the strip of leather with a buckle down near the top of the stirrup) and part the leather layers to see if there are any numbers stamped on the backs of any of the loops (check both sides).

Pictures would help.

Here is a barrel racing Cimarron saddle, priced as new, in a roper would be about double that:

Used, I would not know, depending on how used it is, maybe worth half that?

Also, if you really like the saddle and it fits you everywhere but the stirrup length, checking into the cost of shortening the fenders might be an option. You might be able to work the fenders up into the saddle, under the jockeys more (ample application of baby powder generally helps), allowing the stirrup leather to be pulled down/exposed for more holes to be placed into it.

I can’t figure out how to put a picture on here (I do not have facebook or anything like that to link it to). Is there any way to post pics right on here? The skirt is more square shaped, with rounded corners. Looks similar to the one in Vaquero’s post about skirt type, no billet strap though. Horn is leather. Stirrups are leather. I still just can’t pinpoint which type it is.

If you google Cimarron saddles, all kinds of models come up.
One of those may be similar to yours and will have the answer to what kind it is and how much it cost.

I tried google, didn’t find as much as I’d hoped to, so tried here. Can’t find one that looks like mine, mostly ropers/barrel saddles or saddles for Breyer horses online. Thanks!
