Claiming a horse at Golden Gate

I am interested in claiming a horse at Golden Gate but don’t have any connections there. Could anyone here put me in contact with someone that would be willing to claim a horse for someone else or know of a person that will?

TIA!!

In most states, it’s not as easy as just finding someone to claim a horse for you. Usually, in order to drop a claim, you must have both an owner’s or trainer’s license in that state, and an account at the track with the money in it before race time. I believe there are also a few tracks where you must have raced a horse during the meet to be eligible to claim.

It’s possible that you may be able to find a stranger who’s willing to claim in their name, with their money, and then later “sell” the horse to you. But if that person is caught doing so, they will probably be sanctioned by the racing jurisdiction.

You might try contacting the owner or trainer directly and offering the claiming price. “Hi, I’m interested in your horse Dobbin. I see he’s entered for a $X claiming price. Would you consider selling him for that price?”

I am going out a bit on a limb but I have had some people tell me that you can sometimes find trainers willing to claim for a fee.

I tried contacting the track aftercare Liason and I have called the trainer but his message box is full and has never picked up the phone.

So I was just throwing this out there to see if anyone might be able to connect me with someone willing to claim a horse.

It certainly does happen but there are a lot of policies and politics that go into claiming a horse. It’s not something that a lot of people are willing to stick their neck out for with a stranger on the internet.

But I hope you find someone willing to help you out!

Any update? I’ve gone directly through trainers, as others have suggested, and made offers at or below tag and been quite successful. Look on FB if you have no luck through the phone.
