I’m trying to help a friend sell this trailer. I looked on Horse Trailer World and got overwhelmed. It’s all aluminum and in very good shape externally. The floor is good. It does need new floor mats (in my opinion) and new padding on the sides. The center divider is a very cool design and does not go to the floor. Does anyone have an idea of a fair price? It is older, but well cared for.
Brand? the only ‘Classic II’ I know of is Trails West. What year? What area of the country?
If it truly is in really good condition, minus the matting, and aluminum, I’d guess around 10k, but without seeing it and having these questions answered, that’s a guess based on my own trailer, which is steel, 2005, and would sell for more than I paid for it these days.
It says “Classic ll, General Trailer Corporation” on it. The owner is in the midwest and does not know how old the trailer is. I wasn’t able to find anything, which is why I asked here. Thank you for trying to help.
Is there no plate on it with that information?
Do you have any photos of the trailer?
It looks different than what I was finding so I glad you shared a photo.
So far I have found that Kabre enterprises (the little print under General Trailer Corporation) was registered in Ohio thru October of 1977.
Do not know if that is the same Kabre Enterprises.
You found more than I did! Thank you!!’
It’s really well designed. I imagine it was expensive (for the time) when it was new.
My 2 cents, as someone looking at a lot of trailers lately, I would guess under 8k. Advanced Age plus the non euro nose design, as well as the obvious limited air flow. Maybe I’m wrong, just another opinion.
Thank you.
I was going to say $4500 as-is would probably get it sold - assuming the inside is nice and is 7’. If the trailer was freshly cleaned and serviced, $5k-$6k maybe? Depends on the area and exactly how well maintained it is. Tires and brakes are expensive. Does it have electric brakes and a compatible plug for modern trucks? Lights work and all that? If this is a 50 year old trailer… it may be harder to sell vs a “no name” brand, honestly.
And I may have missed it but if there’s no title, in my area it’s a no sale. All this to say, it really depends
Yes, and I was told it pulls well. It’s mechanically been well maintained. I’ll share your thoughts. Thank you.
I feel like one of the challenges the seller is going to have is that no one knows this brand.
It might be a great trailer (probably is), but the seller is going to have to find that person who is willing to just look at it and see that it is a great trailer, and not care about the brand name.
It’s very odd that there’s no front window for the horses. That combined with no title would make this very hard to sell in my area. I’d recommend the seller try to get a title on it before selling; it’s probably only with 1-2k without the title. With title, probably 4k.
I wondered if it was a slant load so the windows are on the other side?
When I bought my first trailer, in the early 1990s, getting windows the escape doors (so at the horse’s head) was an option that I had to pay extra for.
I saw it briefly. It reminds me of a Gore inside. The front window does open. The roof vent, which you can’t see, is about 12 inches square- kind of like a RV roof vent. The head area is roomy; the front escape door serves both stalls.
I agree…an unfamiliar brand may make it tough to sell. Thank you all for your thoughts on this.
Oh- it’s a 2 horse straight load w a ramp.
Oh maybe. I assumed straight load since that middle door was a pretty common thing they did as an escape door for the person loading.
