Cleaning leather-palm gloves?

I searched

I have gloves with a baby blue leather palm and black crocheted back.

Let me rephrase. I have gloves that used to have baby blue leather palms, and the black crocheted back REEKS :dead:. It would help if I didn’t do stuff like this with the gloves on… But you can see how nasty they are.

I don’t want to ruin them because I adore them. I was thinking throw them in the wash, then air dry and use something like HS Leather Care on the leather? Or maybe CO Helmet cleaner? I’m not sure what smells worse, my helmet or my gloves.

I’d probably try washing them in Leather Therapy. Good luck!

I would wash in Leather Therapy or Pepede or Melp, or even just Woolite, rinse well, let them air dry, they put them on your hands and “wash” your hands with some conditioner or lederbalsom on your palms. I always clean leather gloves like that.

Sounds good BAC, thanks!

I was going to suggest that, those products are wonderful, but OP needs something to wash the crocheted top part of the glove, and saddle soap or balm is not going to be effective for that.

Just an FYI, I already mentioned Libby’s soap :).

I put my crochet gloves in the washing machine. I pull them out after the cycle and hang them to dry out of sunlight. They are tailored sportsman gloves (white crochet with tan palm) SSG gloves (black/black crochet) and my old mountain horse (Tan/lilac crochet). All have come out perfect and with no issues.

I wash fake suede, suede, leather and cloth gloves in the washing machine. Never had a problem. I don’t put them in the dryer though.

These gloves are more than a year old, so I think I’ll try tossing them in the wash and then air drying and conditioning the palms with HS soap. I sniffed them yesterday and opted to hop on without… :dead: Good thing it was just a saddle test ride and immediately was not a good fit, because that felt WEIRD.

I washed mine all the time, and at best I remembered to use a delicate wash soap. Or not. It’s entirely possible bleach was involved at least once. Then I wore them a few minutes so they could stretch out a bit, then let dry and add some leather conditioner (like you are putting hand lotion on), and they were good to go.

Put gloves on, wash in lukewarm water with Ivory cake soap. Rinse thoroughly. dryhands to remove excess moisture. Remove gloves. Hang in cool breezie area.

FYI, if you wash your gloves and then forget and throw the whole load into the dryer…they come out scary-wrinkled and ruined looking, but forcing them on and applying some HSH soap and wearing them while perusing COTH, good as new.
