Over the past year, I have been buying and installing rubber stall mats to cover my concrete barn floor. I have a lot of them and some were trimmed to fit grooming areas. Besides sweeping, is there a way to mop them effectively? Hosing them off, without pulling them outside, is not an option. They get build up from fly sprays, manure, etc, and it would be great to clean them off a couple of times a year to remove the accumulated gunk. Do I just buy a cheap, huge, mop…or any ideas on what products to clean them with?
I get a bucket and put a couple inches of Pine Sol in it, then fill the rest with water. Then I sort of drip the bucket down the aisle. Then I use a broom to scrub the mats. Then I do the same thing with a second bucket, but this time use my big broom and sweep all the dirty water down the aisle and out the door. It looks good and smells good when I’m done. hope that helps!
I buy Pine Sol in a huge container at Sams. It is the classic smell of clean horse barns to me, it is what my trainers always used. In the summer I do it more often because I think it helps keep flies down too.
Pine Sol is great. That’s what I do too fordtraktor. I also take it a step further. I put the mixture (pine sol/water) in a spray bottle and spray the walls in the stalls. I’ll also give the bars/grid a spray. Keeps the flies down in the stall area and the webs down in around the bars/wire grids etc. I do it during the day when the horses are out but before I do their feeders and water pails.
Get a pressure washer. You do more cleaning with less water. You might get by with an electric but a gas powered unit will deliver more power and get the job done sooner with less water.

Yes, for a thorough barn clean I do agree with Guilherme that a gas pressure washer can’t be beat. The Pine Sol is more for regular maintenance. I don’t like to use a pressure washer this time of year because my barn is full of the year’s supply of hay and I don’t want it to splash water all over the hay. My life seems to revolve around keeping the hay dry. (can we open the barn doors today? check the weather app. but those clouds look suspicious…worry, worry, worry…but that’s thousands of dollars I can’t afford to have mold!)
