Clever Cat Names

You can expand this thread to cover any really well-done animal names you have encountered. But IME, there’s an abundance of those in Cat World. It makes me think even more of people who like cats than I already do.

With Caturday almost upon us, please celebrate the greatness of cats and those who love them with the best cat names you have heard.

I was at the vet, in the waiting room, and the receptionist was doing reminder calls. I wasn’t paying attention until she said “I’m calling to remind you that Underfoot has an appointment tomorrow…”

I always wanted to name a cat Furbelow. Because they have fur, below.

And a friend had a cat with, um, gas problems. He was named Chicago, the Windy Kitty.

My cat

Ella Menopea

not so original, but one of my long haired barn cats is hairy potter

having had a WHOLE BUNCH of semi wild kittens to tame and socialize, I came up with these names…Claude (clawed) , Mame (maim), Catastrophe, Catatonic,Bureaucat (he hid under the dresser for weeks)…

I LOVE the Underfoot and Furbelow names!

Mine aren’t very punny, but I adopted two black kittens a year and a half ago and named them Sirius and Bellatrix (both from the Black family in the Harry Potter series). I just added another black cat and named her Tonks (also related to the Blacks).

I’ve taken to naming my cats where I find them: BARNey, ROADster, PARKer.

not super clever but people always seem to like my cat’s name… we call her ‘happycat’ because she is perpetually not happy or friendly. she’ll be 4 soon and hasn’t lightened up since the day i caught her

my trainer had two kittens she named Ignorance and Folly after she bought and purchased a farm… haha

All of my animals that I’ve obtained as an adult have been named after Kurt Vonnegut characters.

Leon Trout
Winston Niles Rumfoord
Larry Whiteman
Earl Fenton

If I ever get a female cat, I’ll name her Maude Fenton, Earl’s wife.

I actually think Leon Trout is probably the best named animal I ever had. It just works - a cat with the last name of “Trout.”

I love a clever cat name and some of these mentioned are FAB-ulous!

I have Diva Kamikaze Magpie - she would jump off the back of the sofa when she was a kitten straight into her water dish. (She still loves water.) It was going to be Diva Atlantic City but that didn’t roll right. And Magpie because she steals things.

My beloved Clive Motorycle Redfern (RIP sweet boy) because Clive just fit his dignified attitude, motorcycle because he would make these “murrr murr murrmm” noises, Redfern after the character in Doonesbury.

Then there’s Duncan - he smelled like a sugar donut as a baby.

One of my friends calls her cat Pinko Sandinista. errrr…okay - have no idea why.

My guys:
Ivan the Purrible
Crash Test Dummy Cat (found after she’d been caught up in a car engine)
<a href=“https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1101352166321&l=5dfbe9c0ef”>Thing Too </a>
Fosbury (named after the Fosbury flop)
Kahli Ma the Destroyer

we’ve also had-
Cat Cubed (long haired so she looked like she was about 3 times the size she actually was)
Legos (we got her as a stray that got chased through the cat door by one of other cats- so we figured she was saying “let go of me”)

Thank god for this thread. I’m fostering a mother cat and five kittens, and I need names. For some reason I have come up with absolutely nothing, maybe partly because the kittens are just starting to interact, at 3.5 weeks. You guys have some great names!

I’ve always wanted to adopt a group of kittens and name them after anti-virus software - you could have Simon (Symantec), McAfee (Mac), and Norton for starters. Just adds to the fun factor when they’re chasing insects around the house.

Oh Darkwave, cute names. There are five kittens in this litter, two females, three males, all short haired, all very cute (of course), and their mom is a dilute tortie, with white paws and chest, and very sweet. She might be a bit of a ho though, as there is one of each color in this litter.

An elderly barnworker named my teeny dumped in a shoebox rescue “Motorboat” because she had such a huuuuuuuge motor.

Best cat I ever had was Malarkey, cause he was full of it. His sister was named Little Miss Muffet, because she was very prim and proper. Currently, I have ‘lil Jimmy’ Dickens, or you could use ‘What the Dickens’ courtesy of Grantchester, and my giant Tuxedo is named Gatsby, because he is properly attired.

Shiloh, my junior hunter’s name was Duncan.

We started out with the standard

Tigger and Stripe

Moved on to

Ivy-pie and Jess-a-minit

then

Tomlet Omlet adopted us from the vets

We are currently sharing our house with

TiggyWig - aka Miss Wiggle
Merlin - aka Mr Murr
Oz the Great and Powerful

Most of the names morph around to something we call them on a daily basis.

my neighbor adopted a fine orange cat that came with the name Vinnie

I decided that his formal name is Vincent Mango. He got that name while working a job in Miami.

When he is hanging about he is Vinnie, when he is on the job, watching the activity out on the street and over in the park, he is Vincent Mango.

I had a grey dilute tortie called ethel murmer a long time ago. she was a cat who screamed at me and demanded I take her home with me THIS INSTANT when I was dropping off newspapers at the shelter. the shelter boss handed her to me and said get her out of here–she’s so damn noisy no one will adopt her and she’s scheduled for euth tomorrow.
i took her home and to the vet where she was dx with a severe heart murmer, and the rest is history.
she lived to be 14.

I once named a really nice foster kitten Natural Born Cuddler because he was, of his own volition from the start.

Sometimes with the fosters, you need a name that does a little advertising. The adopters can rename if they like.
