After the continuing and extremely annoying issues with bottom-of-screen ads, I employed AdBlock, and was sorry to do it. I thus see no ads on COTH.
Starting today, if I click within the green borders of any COTH page, up comes this ad, full-screen, in same window.
What gives?
This happened to me the other day, too! I’m glad you posted this thread, because I honestly had NO clue what I’d done to get the ad to come up.
I am reminded of the pain in the ass floating Dodge truck ad we had some time ago that drew a ton of complaints. Perhaps it’s somehow related?
This is happening to me as well. I often click into the green space to get back into the window so I can start using my scroll wheel. Now it’s linking to a Dodge site.
All I can see on the borders is the Ram ad. And it’s ugly. And hurts my eyes a little. Too busy!
Because instead of green borders, there are now huge Dodge Ram ads on either side of the forum if you aren’t/can’t be using adblock.
I do not see the ads, but clicking the green is bringing up Ram. Really annoying.

I get the need for advertising revenue, but come on.
I did not have this problem early today when I first read this thread and now it is happening to me too.
Very obnoxious. Hit the green space by accident and you end up switching to an ad.
Is everyone experiencing this issue using Internet Explorer as their browser? If so, what version?
Are you also using AdBlocker?
Thanks for any additional info – it’s not something I’m experiencing, so I’ve sent a query to the tech folk to see if they can replicate.

I am using the latest live build of Google Chrome and, specifically, Adblock Plus.
I use a pop up blocker and my browser is Mozella Firefox. Only happens on COTH. It is the Doge Ram one.
Firefox 21.0, AdBlock Plus.
This is incredibly reproducible for me. The cursor even changes from an arrow to a hand indicating the link. Obviously a result of the enormous Dodge ads to the side of the forum. Mod, I am sure you will see what we’re talking about if you pull up the forum in any browser with ads blocked. If you simply cannot see what we are, I’d be happy to make a little video and send it on.
I truly understand the need for advertising revenue, but ads like this will only drive more people to use adblock, and I doubt the accidental clicks you’re getting from us are making up for the loss of people who formerly looked at the ads here.
Still having this problem today.
I am using Firefox I(no idea which version) and Adblock Plus.
All I know is this is very annoying and it most certainly makes me want to buy a Dodge even less than I did before.
I have adblock installed (safari) and this happened to me. You can right-click and block the ad, no big deal.

Of course, but I think it’s rather interesting that the same company has now had two varieties of obnoxious advertising: first, pop-up banners at the bottom, and now what are apparently large banners in the sidebar that foil an adblocker unless specifically blocked. Mods, please relay to whomever is in charge of things that this kind of advertising is going to continue depriving the site and its other advertisers of potential revenue because I will continue to use adblock aggressively on COTH for as long as Dodge and other companies continue to advertise in a manner that impedes my browsing. I used to click through the ads on the white sidebar to make purchases because I wanted to support COTH.
The Dodge “bookend” ads are apparently running through May 15th and because the ads display in the border, they are only visible in large browsers. Users in small browsers, many laptops, iPads and mobile devices won’t see the ads.

This! It’s funny. At work I see the dodge ram in the borders but no pop up. At home, only green borders but don’t let your cursor stray over it!
I use Google Chrome, with AdBlock, so I had no idea why I kept getting redirected to some truck ad. I did as SAacres, suggested, and blocked teh ad by right clicking when my cursor turned into the “hand” and it worked just fine.
I thought for sure the forum was down because the Ram ads were going away. Guess not.
Oh yes! It was happening yesterday but not so far today (knock on wood).
