Clinic with Torrance Watkins?

Theoretically, if there was a clinic with Torrance Watkins offered at her Morningfield Farm in central MA, would there be interest?

She has stabling for at least 10 horses, so it could potentially be a multiple day thing. She has outdoor rings and tons of hacking. I’m trying to get a feel for how many people would want to participate and/or audit something like this.

Would love to go if we weren’t five states away. Torrance has forgotten more than many know. Great opportunity!

I wish I was closer! She is one of the greats

I might audit, if it were close and free, but will never ride in a clinic with her again. She’s a brilliant rider though.

I would love to attend if it happened to be theoretically scheduled in 2015!

Pregnancy (due any day now) would keep me out for the rest of this year but I would certainly take advantage of the opportunity!

I am curious why Saskatoonian wouldn’t ride with her again… Bad experience?

Her attention to detail is legendary. Her “response” to something which displeases her is equally so. Not for the faint of heart. I dare say, an auditor would gain great knowledge and insight… at someone else’s expense. It is just the way she is.

She is the one who taught me never to take a clinic I haven’t audited first. Had I been among the faint of heart, I might have bowed out when her program - which is inflexible - didn’t work for my horse. What I got out of that clinic was a stopping problem. Oh, yeah, and the ability to ignore instructions that aren’t working. The long term lessons were fabulous; the short term fallout wasn’t a lot of fun.

I appreciate the feedback. Surely her clinic wouldn’t be right for everyone, though from the sound of it I think she’s mellowed over the years. I’ve found her to be very patient and kind in her instruction. (And I’m not a stupendous rider or anything, so there’s a lot to be patient about)

I guess I’ll have to reach out around the area to see if there would be enough interest.

She’s definitely mellowed. She keeps her horses at my farm when she competes here. She has been unbelievably generous to us over the years, worked well with Mr. PM and has given us some real help dealing with a hard to maintain OTTB. She’s not for everyone. But then few clinicians are.

once was enough - terrible experience - she should be ashamed - I was so excited, had a great horse - It was a long time ago … mellowed maybe but you couldn’t pay me to ride with her.

never did a clinic with her but

Took a bunch of lessons with her and never had a bad experience.

She was supportive constructive, and awesome!!

Although I agree there are professionals in the world you couldn’t pay me to go back to.

I would LOVE to be able to do something like this. I dabble in tiny CTs with green horses but I am by no stretch an eventer. That said, I’ve had only one experience with Torrence Watkins and it was all too brief.

She was brilliant and eagle-eyed and so very patient with a talented TB that had been very, very fried.

Just a few weeks ago I was google-stalking to find out if there would ever be a formal opportunity to work with her… if she’d be open to a very green OTTB who seems more inclined to the hunter ring (and less capable of going cross country) than any animal I’ve ever sat on.
