Best clippers for somebody who wants to easily and efficiently clean up legs, throat latch, roach thick pony manes but not body clip? Affordable but work well? Usually when I buy something that is supposed to be good for lighter clipping they aren’t strong enough to roach well.
Oster A 5 or Andis Agc.
I have an Oster A 5 and it does all that easily.
They were almost new-- boxed/ sold as pet clippers and I got them on Ebay for half the retail price and they are exactly like my old pair sold as equine clippers.
Agree with the Andis AGC. Nice clippers with minimal fuss. A lot of people use them for trimming, I’ve been using them successfully for years for body clipping. I wouldn’t do a cushinoid horse with them, but they are great for everything else.
I like my Oster A5 very much
Mine were fine for my double-coated Cushings Irish horse as long as I was keeping him in show trim year round. When we stopped showing in the winter and I started letting his hair get back to its natural state between December and March, after 2-3 months of hair growth the T-84 blade would jam up between the wiry top coat and the dense, plush, fluffy teddy bear undercoat.
I think it would roach a mane. Maybe not quickly, and you might need to do a couple passes to neaten it, but it has the power. It’s a great all-around clipper.
