I’m completely clipper illiterate. Never used them before. But for the first time I’m going to be showing my horse in events that actually have turnout requirements. I won’t be body clipping or anything like that, but I need something to touch up fetlocks, bridle paths, ear fuzz, etc. I’m just looking for something user friendly, reasonably priced, and decent quality. Any suggestions?
I went with the Andis AGC 2 Speed. I really like them.I was a total clipper novice when I bought mine. Easy to use, clean, blades aren’t super expensive. Fairly quiet, and I can get four white stockings, muzzle, ears, and bridle path clipped without any trouble. I’ve noticed that they do tend to run warm though, so I keep a second blade on hand to swap them out when one gets too warm to use.
I have these and love these. Everyone at my barn uses them at my barn. Unfortunately they do run hot if they aren’t really sharp. I use 2 and rotate. I would suggest getting something shorter for ears and whites.
What ever clipper you get… Dirt and lack of oil kills blades and clippers. Wash the horse before clipping. Keep the blades clean and oiled. Clean oiled blades run smoother, cut faster, and run cooler.
After cleaning body clipping blades, I found a coating a gear oil between the halves keeps them running cooler. The gear oil is thick so the blades have to be apart to coat them.
If you won’t be using them a lot go for the cordless/rechargeable models.
Less clipping time than corded, but for your needs s/b sufficient & no tangling cord to deal with.
