closing ceremonies .. HUGE disappointment

Currently writing this while leaving the closing ceremonies. After working as a liason for the opening ceremonies the bar was set pretty high. I paid 80 $ for a very disappointing “event”. Granted it was wonderful to hear Princess Haya speak, but there was no entertainment other than Lyle Lovitt. NO horses! Speaking to others, they’re all disappointed. My mother and I opted not to go to a vaulting event to see the closing ceremonies. And 80 dollars was a HUGE rip off.

Alltech you will be hearing from me.

Watched it on NBC and it looked pitiful. Princess Haya’s line about everyone hoping “the sun always shines on our old Kentucky home” made me chuckle…pretty sure everyone wants rain instead!

I completely agree with you. We also spent $80 to sit there and hear speeches. After I herd how entertaining the opening ceremonies were, I never imagined the closing would be that disappointing.

Well… They did have a group of “Mustangs” (cars) positioned around the arena. Maybe they were in place of actual horses?

The night before, we had bought the half price tickets . On Sunday morning, somone decided to “treat” the Volunteers for free. If we had known this in advance, we would not have bought tickets.

Other than some of the Competitors walking once around the stadium, there was nothing for them. Did they just leave?

We enjoyed the Lyle Lovett concert.

One other nice thing, after Lyle Lovett was finished, they let folks take the ferns and mums home. There were some people walking out with as many as they could hold. Of course, watching them try to shlep them back to Spy Coast was quite interesting.

For those of you who have been to WEG closing ceremonies in other countries, what did they do differently?

Aachen’s is on YouTube.

I guess fireworks, the staple of closing ceremonies, would have been off limits.

The fireworks were downtown. I didn’t know about it in advance, but I saw some of them as I was driving into town for dinner Sunday night. They could be seen from Newtown Pike, halfway between KHP and downtown.

Really, you should direct your criticism at the WEG foundation & Jamie Link.

Alltech helped out with money & selling tickets and various other things, but they did not plan the closing ceremonies. Not sure how much, if any, input they had in that.

Actually, you might be surprised just “how much input Alltech had” in everything.

They paid the big bucks, so there was a sense of entitlement in the way that they thought things should be run.

There were many instances that major changes had to be made at the last minute to suit them.

Oh, I completely realize that. I’m just saying that the overall plan for the closing ceremonies were most likely pretty much in place by the time that Alltech infused the $30 million and decided to take over the reins, so to speak.

Don’t just single out Alltech for criticism, if you have some. There are plenty of responsible (or irresponsible) parties out there.
