So when I first got her, she was on pellets, which are easier and I prefer them for sure! She has free choice hay, so thats why I started with the pellets. Where I live the cubes are cheaper so I switched, and it seemed that when I switched she kinda maybe lost weight?? which I thought was odd, because I am doing the same pound for pound as I was with the pellets??? Guess Ill change back to the pellets
I was just trying to cut some cost by doing the cubes…she has been my MOST costly rescue yet…she makes my 15th one for the 2019 year! Definitely leaning a lot with her… you can NEVER know enough that is for sure!!
muscle atrophy weakness and altered gait are all symptoms,
What does general blood chemistry show? The stamp TOMS of lack of muscling, poor hind end control sure sound like EPSM. But a baby failing to thrive could have other things going on, so checking general blood work can help give ideas.
From your history of failure to thrive in this horse, I suspect a portosystemic shunt and microhepatica. Rare is horses but does occur.
We treated for ulcers, on my TB who was emaciated when I got him. Anigest works differently than bran mash but you’ll have to look up the medical article. Then we added Platinum Performance vitamins at the suggestion of the vet. Very expensive but all my horses are stunning. Lastly we added Cool Calories 100 to every meal and if it was really cold or over 90 degrees, we soak alfalfa and add more cool calories and salt to it. He always looked like a TB but was healthy an made it to 28. Misht do a few fecal exams to rule out worms…
Total longshot, but have you checked her for sand?
