Colateral groove depth for miniature donkeys

Can anyone out there who has mini donks with healthy hooves, tell me how deep are their collateral grooves at the deepest point?

I volunteer at a rescue where there are 7 really badly overgrown (think elf slippers and stilts) mini donks that are about to get trimmed for the first time.
There is a full-time farrier for the rescue, a young guy, who does have some experience trimming standard donks. But the thing is he’s been occasionally trimming short enough to sore some horses esp. if they have a lot of separation or white line disease. I get that it’s really difficult b/c the footing is all soft sand and b/c there are so many horses, not all of them gentle, that keeping everyone on a regular trim cycle is really challenging. Though actually, maybe he’s finally starting to respond to feedback about over-trimming, it’s been a little while since I saw anyone tender from a fresh trim. He’s young, hopefully he’s learning… very patient and kind and well-meaning, so fingers crossed…

Anyway, I turned him on to Pete Ramey’s protocol hoping it could help and he’s open-minded about it, so maybe we can get a good job done and not too much taken off at one fell swoop. Especially if I can find a target number for him.

Thus the question. I know it’s a long shot-- Thank you!

Your expertise on trimming is over my head. However, we have a mini donkey that is trimmed every 4-5 weeks and has very healthy hooves. I can get pictures if you want. Just tell me what shots you need to see.

All I know is they need to be longer than on a horse.
