Collectors item up for auction at Goffs.

If this was a colt I imagine Coolmore would be bid the moon for him, still should bring a pretty penny though.

The world’s only George Washington foal will be offered for sale at Goffs November Foal Sale.
Bred by Italian breeder Stefano Luciani of Azienda Agricola Luciani near Rome, who also bred last year’s November Sale topping Galileo foal, the filly will be consigned by the Irish National Stud who feature amongst the leading vendors at this sale every year.

George Washington was one of the most outstanding and charismatic racehorses of all time, having been crowned European Champion Two Year Old in 2005 and Champion Miler at three. Victory in the Stan James 2000 Guineas was the highlight of his multiple Group 1 winning career.
Luciani, who bred the filly together with his father Loreto, remarked:
“I was delighted to sell the highest priced foal at the 2007 November Sale and I look forward to returning to Goffs this year with the only George Washington foal in the world. The filly really looks like her sire - in fact the similarity is incredible. She’s a good bodied filly with plenty of bone and exudes quality”.

The filly is out of the Rainbow Quest mare Flawlessly and is a half sister to Group 3 winner Ombre Legere as well as Group 1 placed Flawly, the dam of French Derby runner up Best Name.

Commenting on this exciting entry for the November Sale, Goffs Chief executive Henry Beeby said:
"I was thrilled when Nick Nugent told me he had secured the only George Washington foal in the world for Goffs November Sale. Goffs is honoured to have the opportunity to sell this truly unique filly and we are confident of achieving another excellent result for her breeders who have been great patrons of the Irish breeding industry for many years.

I’m curious - if you had to guess what do you think the final price will be?

2 million euro?

George Washington’s only foal ended the Goffs November foal sale with a bang, selling for 280,000 euros during the fifth and final session Nov. 21 in Ireland. The price was the highest of the auction.

Gerard Burke of Glidawn Stud bought the bay filly, which is a half-sister to 2002 Prix Penelope (Fr-III) winner Ombre Legere (by Double Bed). The weanling’s other siblings include the winner Flawly (by Old Vic), who was group III-placed in France and finished second in the 2000 Garden City Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. IT).

The 280,000-euro filly was bred in Ireland by Stefano Luciani in the name of Azienda Agricola Loreto Luciani . The Irish National Stud consigned her to the Goffs auction. She is out of the 17-year-old Rainbow Quest mare Flawlessly.

Cheap in my view for her.

It wasn’t confirmed until this month that she indeed was the sole “heir” to the late George Washington.

She has alot to carry on her young shoulders, so to speak… Though I am sure she is a lovely filly.

Indeed, although at the moment the daughter of gorgeous George is going through a bit of a fugly phase…:o

She was 1 in 50 coverings that ‘worked’:

Meanwhile, there will be a poignant reminder of one of the most talented animals O’Brien has trained when the only foal sired by George Washington goes under the hammer at Goffs on Friday.

The tragic genius of modern thoroughbreds, George Washington broke down fatally at the Breeders’ Cup last year, having returned to training after an abortive stud career.

Though he covered some 50 mares, chronic fertility problems made a mockery of his virile physique.

Now he has just this one, tenuous conduit into the gene pool: a filly out of a well-related Rainbow Quest mare named Flawlessly. She was bred by Stefano Luciani, and foaled just down the road from Goffs at the Irish National Stud.

It is not often a bloodstock auction can offer a “unique” opportunity in the strictest sense of the word, but this filly is clearly a collector’s item, George Washington’s one and only legacy to future generations.

In case this was lost in the assorted news … GW’s filly is going back to the auction block in October 2009

excerpts

The only yearling in the world by the ill–fated European champion George Washington is scheduled to be offered in Book 1 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale Oct. 6-8 in England.

The bay filly, foaled last year on Feb. 4, is out of the 18-year-old Rainbow Quest mare Flawlessly and will be consigned by Gerry and Patricia Burke’s Glidawn Stud.

“She is an outstanding physical specimen and of course she is unique,” said Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony of the George Washington filly. “It is wonderfully appropriate that she will be sold at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale as her father. George Washington, was the 1,150,000 guineas sale topper at the first October Book 1 in 2004 and we also have George Washington’s three parts brother by Danehill Dancer in the sale.”

Azienda Agricola Loreto Luciani bred the George Washington filly in Ireland. Gerry Burke purchased her for 280,000 euros from the Irish National Stud’s consignment at last year’s Goffs November foal sale in Ireland. She was the highest-priced weanling sold in Ireland in 2008.
