Color Change?

Can we change the color of the forum? I thought I did, but I think I just managed to change the colors of my profile box. Things are so very bright.

@achcosuva Thoughts on the recent updates to the background color?

Better, but still pretty white and bright.

I think it’s a little better, but still very bright. It might be that I’m on a Mac screen, but it’s difficult to even see the shade change between the center spot where the posts are and the sidebars. Is it possible to make those side bars a bit darker? Thanks for your efforts in updating the forums!

Better than at first, agree still very bright, if you have any degree of astigmatism the contrast makes the letters jump. I have in the past recommended the color palette of the old site to web designers for good color combination. Hopefully the whiteness can be toned down.

Background is STILL very bright. Text is STILL small and very low contrast. A lot of people have mentioned these issues but very little has been done to correct them, so is there anything I can do on my end to make things easier to read? Change my computer settings or something?

I’ve cut way back on my BB time since the change–it’s just too hard to read–not worth the trouble and eyestrain!

OK maybe I’m going crazy, but I will concede that the font is a bit larger than it was at first–thanks! I noticed the change from the text box (where you type your message–still very small font) to what appears on the screen in the thread. So now if you could just do something about the bright-white/contrast thing–please!

It might be helpful to post screen shots of what you’re seeing? The font’s been increased in size and also changed to have more space between the letters, and is now bigger than the previous iteration of the board. The background has been modified several times since launch.

COTH has really been really attentive and interested in feedback, changing up multiple things in response. But if you’re not seeing the changes, showing the mods what you’re seeing, or at least sharing what platform you’re on, could go a long way to ensuring your own experience is getting hit with the updates and changes.

Is anyone else seeing irregularities in the spacing between letters? There is too much space between letters within words that makes it difficult to read quickly as a word seems to have extra space in it, so much so that it looks almost like two words. For example, in the above post by Simkie, the word bigger has extra space between the two g’s - like big ger, the word previous has too much space between the r and the e - like pr evious, the g and the r have too much space in the word background - like backg round. But when I posted this, my examples of the words don’t have the same exact issues. The spacing is really inconsistent. I’m on a Mac in Safari.

Yeah, we were talking about that here:

@Simkie , the irregular spacing does not seem to be as bad to me. Do you think it is a little better?

I’ve either gotten used to it, or it’s improved!

That is exactly why I asked. I was wondering if I had simply gotten used to the font or if it was fixed.

If I really look hard at the letters, I still see the spacing oddities. But it’s no longer as bothersome. How does it look on your end?

A thought I just had (one of my few for the year  )… wonder if some of the “readability” is, for some of us, what our eye/brain is used to and expecting and that, more than likely, isn’t what is being seen.

The general rule of thumb is that for the printed word, serif fonts are easier to read while sans serif are preferred for web-based reading. Since the majority of us come from the printed word world ;), the eye/brain is expecting serif (the small tailing lines at the ends of letter) but the font that is being used here is sans serif.

Wonder if that is a bit what’s going on…??

I don’t know quite when it happened but this morning (at least) it appears that font is again a bit larger with corresponding more white space between letters, etc.

This is much appreciated :love-struck:

I have also noticed that while the general thread reply is now so much easier to read, the signature font is still a bit smaller  (yeah, very small whine  ).

I actually prefer that the signatures are smaller. It makes where the thread discussion ends and the signature starts much easier to see. Just one more way to tell them apart.
