Trying to decide what color he really is? It’s hard to tell in the photos I’ve seen of him.
He’s listed as a bay, but looks like he is either a roan or going grey.
Anyone here see him in person & know what color he really his…lol

He is a bay with roaning. Whether it is rabicano or sabino, I’m not sure.
He’s not grey, as neither parents are grey. The color has nothing to do with being clipped, either. Don’t even think he is clipped at this stage?
Whatever it is, I like it. 
I stand corrected, he must have started roaning out. Must be the “in” do for summer 2013
Most of his brothers are bay’s, that clip out to a mousey colour (similar to his current colour).
No, he definitely has noticeable roaning.

I was curious about this too before the race today. I thought I heard the commentators refer to him as a grey?!?
He’s registered as a bay but has white hairs (roaning) ALLLLLL over him. My friend got some neat pics of him at Oaklawn earlier this year. Very unique horse!
In the photo BL took of Oxbow, he is definately body clipped…lol
Not sure that makes him look more “roany” than normal or not?
He looks greyish/mousy brown in all his pics, even those from last year.
He cannot be true roan. It does not exist in TBs. He does have something going on however.
Yes I am aware that true Roan isn’t in TB’s.
However he def. has some sort of white flecking/roaning going on…lol

I was within a foot of him today, he may have been clipped at some point but that definitely has nothing to do with the countless white hairs scattered throughout his coat.
No matter what the official tb colors are, I’d call him a bay roan.
As a Jr. I rode a TB mare who had a chestnut (strawberry?) roan coat.

He has Sabino characteristics. In one pic the white lower lip is clearly visible. Many thoroughbreds are actually sabino. I have a sabino arabian that has white hair mixed in throughout his coat just like Oxbow. 
I don’t know what we’re supposed to call it, but I also saw what definitely looked like a strawberry roan TB in race training at Lamour Farm in Florida in the early '80’s. S/he had an absolutely amazing red and silver streaked tail, too. Quite memorable.
I have a TB with nearly the same colour (a bit less white). His JC papers say bay, but his Coggins and other paperwork of that ilk say bay roan.

True roans don’t usually have the white facial markings like Oxbow does. His are a good indicator of Sabino gene. Here is a website that might clear it up. http://grullablue.com/colors/white_patterns.htm
