alright! Thank you guys! This was a big help
There is only a 5-Panel for AQHA at this time. APHA has a 6-Panel.
IMM is not on the official panel at this time.
Ohhh, I thought IMM was part of AQHA already. Good to know - still, it should be done IMHO, and any breeder should be asking for that result for any potential match.
It’s looking like he won’t be bred, but I would certainly have him tested (required or not) if he were to be. Thanks for bringing it up!
For now I know I need to test the first choice which is
Coat Color Panel - (Red Factor, Agouti, Champagne, Cream, Dun, Gray*, Pearl, Silver)
Should I do instead
”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹Full Color/Pattern Panel - (Combination of Coat Color Panel and White Pattern Panel 2)
Because it includes the white pattern panel? Or is there really no reason to?
The difference is $100 for the first and $160 for the second. I’d be inclined to do the white panel also if you were breeding. If it’s just for fun I’d probably still do it because with such a pale coat color there might be more in there than you realized, and to test again later with the white factor alone is more expensive. YMMV!
alright, I just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t absolutely pointless to do it or something.
You do want to find out if there is any Frame Overo hiding in any breeding stock horse because of the danger of Lethal White foals.
I will go ahead and get them both done. I am fairly positive that there isn’t though as there is no history of overos in his bloodline (That I know of I guess)
Why White Pattern Panel 2 and not 1?
If there’s no chance of gray or appy (leopard and pattern-1), then no need for those tests, and I assume WPP1 is cheaper.
- AQHA does in fact have the appaloosa genes lurking, so it's not impossible.
- UC Davis offers a bundle of Coat Color Pattern and White Pattern panel 2, but not White Pattern Panel 1. (Gray is actually included in both panels anyway.) So, you get the extra genes in WP2 for free.
Right, I know the LP and PATN genes are in the QH, but usually the lines are known, so “if there’s no chance…”
I was only going off the OP info which has WPP-1 and WPP-2 both listed
I just check the UC Davis site to see what they have:
White Pattern Panel 1 - $60.00
Tobiano, LWO, Sabino-1, Splashed White (SW1-6), Dominant White (W5, W10, W20, W22)
White Pattern Panel 2 - $100.00
Gray*, Tobiano, LWO, Sabino-1, Splashed White (SW1-6), Leopard, Pattern1, Dominant White (W5, W10, W20, W22)
Then also
Full Color/Pattern Panel - $160.00
Combination of Coat Color Panel and White Pattern Panel 2
for a savings of $40 over doing the 2 of these separately.
Its been sent to the Stud Book Committee to decide if it will be added, but no decision has been made.
