Colorado Horse Packing

Anyone have any recommendations for outfitters in the N. Colorado/S. Wyoming area who guide overnight horse pack trips? I live about an hour from RMNP and the Wyoming border. I’d like to reserve a private party for for 2-3 nights and a group of accomplished riders… no beginners.

I plan to put together a trip with a bunch of friends on the east coast. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Two years ago I rode out of Dubois, WY (flew into Jackson) to ride with a group of like minded women for 5 days.

It was fantastic! Fixed base camp, wonderful food, large tents, great horses, and the views were spectacular.

Can’t wait to go back.,

I’m not on my computer, so I can’t post a link right now, but will later.

Flying J outfitters guides into the Uinta Wilderness in North Eastern Utah, the Bookcliffs inUtah and the Challis Idaho area.

they do a great job.

I think I’d pick Utah over Colorado anyway because one could ride in the red rocks and high up in the mountains, but if Flying J takes its customers to the places you ride, Painted Horse, then that’s fer shure where I’d want to go!

I met George while up Elk Hunting, He had finished up with his clients and was hunting the same area I hunt. We’ve seen each other ever fall for 8-10 years. He sets up a great camp, which I’ve spent a few nights in. He has a nice string of pack mules and is a great hunter.

So he rides a lot of the same country I do for hunting season, But I can’t tell you that he rides the Red Rock area of the state. I just don’t think his permit goes far enough south to get you into the real Color Country of the state. But he definitely knows his way around the North Eastern part of Utah along the Utah/Colorado state line.
