Comfortable Tall Boots

…do they exist??

I had an old pair of Mountain Horse boots that were fairly comfy, but after 4+ years of wearing them a LOT, the zipper broke. I had purchased a new pair of MH, but dang, these give me the WORST blisters EVER.

Is there such a thing as a comfy tall boot? Uh, that doesn’t break the bank?

what do you define as not breaking the bank…yeah, I made the mistake of getting a pair of Sergio Grasso (on sale in a tent sale)…and willing paid full price for me next pair. I’m ruined…can’t go back. This is coming from a girl who HATED riding in tall boots (only did when I had too)…now that is all I ride in.

I got Ariat Volant S boots a few months ago and they are the most comfortable tall boots I’ve ever worn. Virtually no break in. Yeah, they’re $500, but totally worth it IMO.

Check out the new Signature Granada from Devon-Aire. It is actually made in Europe of Italian calfskin. Best thing? Retails for $450!

i’ve had devon-aire, mountain horse, and ariats - all okay. finally got a pair of de niros and OMG never ever going back. i event in them and love love love them. LOVE i say.

ETA: they weren’t that expensive either - $400

Sure, I LOVE my Ovation field boots I got on an insane sale (I’m in that income demographic where $100 is a lot of money!). I can walk around in them all day, which I never could in my old DevonAires or a pair of inherited Ariats. Broke 'em in in the bathtub, never looked back.

I’ve heard amazing things about the new Tough Riders.

Which MH model did you get? I have the Supremes and absolutely LOVE them. Most comfy things ever. I also have a pair of the Richmonds that are still kicking after many years of hard use and are 100% broken in and comfy- though they didn’t start off that way!

Also, you CAN get the zippers replaced. I contacted Mountain Horse through their USA website when I busted on of the zippers on my Richmonds (my fault…learned that mud + zipper teeth + trying to force a jammed zipper down = broken zipper teeth) and they sent me a replacement zipper. They even suggested a place that does a good job at zipper replacements! I got my boot back and it is still going strong many years later.

You want the Tuff Rider tall boots. Usually about $150-160.

I used to have MH but these are so much better.

I have a pair of the Tuff Rider winter boots and they are comfy but I am tall and they are a solid several inches too short. I couldn’t ride in public in them – well, I could but they would ruin the pictures.

My Monacos are unbelievably delightful but if I was getting another pair of boots I would get the Ariat V Sport with the blue tops. Those are adorable, super comfy and $299. They also look good enough I would show in them anywhere.

But I have the Dublin Intensity gaiters I use a lot. They look almost like tall boots, are very comfy and best of all, I got them for around $50 from Horseloverz on sale. I have them in black and brown. I am wearing them in brown here: https://fordtraktor.shutterfly.com/pictures/132. They are great and I wear them instead of tall boots sometimes when my feet are sore.

I have a pair of Ariat Volant front zip boots and loved them since day one. Two people have borrowed them in the past years (got to barn and had forgotten their boots). They both could not believe how comfortable they are. If I used them for showing I would purchase the Volant S as they are back zip and have the Spanish tops.

I have the Ariat V Sports. OMG, no break in time. I love them.

The new TuffRiders are great, we sell a ton of them. I’m considering them for myself for schooling. They look nice enough to show as well, but I have been forever ruined by Sergio Grasso’s they are amazing and even the funny looking walk and ride boots are great sellers. They are super comfy, but are pricey, and I am rough on boots. . . I wear them for everything, so having a pair that I don’t need to worry about getting muddy etc is probably a good idea.

I jsut saw that smartpak has them for $300 and now I want a pair. DO NOT NEED!

The Tuff Rider Wellesley tall boots are DIVINE! Picked up a pair from State Line Tack for $224 including shipping. Like butter! The most comfortable pair of english tall boots I’ve ever worn. Make my Ariat Tempos feel like stovepipes. They are styled after Parlantis. Got them to school in but like them so much, I’m saving them to show in and will just keep working in my Ariat paddock boots and half chaps.

Edited to Add: You can still pick up the Tuff Rider Sport Dress Boots for $99 in certain sizes from Dover: A great deal for schooling boots: http://www.doversaddlery.com/Product.aspx?p=X1-380522&redirected=true

I am really enjoying my new Ariat Volant S Zips. I think the V Sports are similar and cost a bit less.

FYI, if you are considering the Ariats. Based on reviews here and elsewhere, there is a difference in the feel of the lower priced V Sport boot and the Volant S and other boots. Some feel the Volant styles are more comfortable but I have not tried the V Sport so can’t make a comparison. Best ides: try them both.

Those Volants and V Sports may be comfy but boy are they u-g-l-y.

(Though this is coming from the person who still thinks GPAs are hideous…only outdone in the ugly category by KEP helmets)

My deniros were great but after 6m the sole came off :frowning:

I have ariat heritage contours and they are pretty comfy. I think I got them on sale for $200

Ariat Volants. I bought mine at Mary’s tent sale last year and saved about $150. LOVE them. The downside…I bought mine as show boots and the sales rep did a great job of fitting them as such. Super tight and extra tall to prepare for dropping. This was when my horse was sound and my daily Tredsteps were new.

Well, a year and a half later of MUCH use and abuse and the left boot can sometimes be too tight to zip and they barely dropped. I still have my heel risers in them! However, I LOVE them. They are so, so comfortable even when I was a working student and on my feet all day in them. I didn’t take them off before washing numerous horses, walking through mud, etc. I mean it when I say I abused them. I cleaned them by wiping them off and swiping on Higher Standards every couple of days. They still look fabulous when cleaned up and have held up amazingly. I had a pair of Tredsteps that didn’t last 8 months before breaking down. The Volants are worth every penny but they don’t drop nearly as much as regular boots.
