I’m looking for a comfy rein with clips for when I ride in a halter. I’ve been tying a 10 foot leadrope to the halter but it’s too short when my big guy puts his head down.
I want cheap reins with clips.

I just use what ever reins I like, unbuckle or unscrew the ends, put on scizzors clips, reclose and then I can easily switch around with different bridles.
Reins are also VERY easy (and cheap) to make out of biothane/rope/leather and then you can cusomtize it all you want
i got mine from slypner gear.
they’re braided material (don’t think it’s pure cotton, some kind of a blend?) and then they have beta ends w/ clips.
but in all honesty i think that “comfy reins” is such a subjective concept. my gf, had the reins i have and she hated them. she rides in plain beta reins which i absolutely hated. go figure;)
I loathe split reins, and they never feel right when attached together with velcro or tied together. I’ve been thru nylon reins, leather reins, beta reins, homemade rope reins and on and on. Wish barrel reins were ten feet long, but they never are. I’ve come to the conclusion that English buckle reins were the way to go, recently got two pair, one rubberized webbing, the other rubber, took apart the hook ends, applied snaps to clip to bit. Got them on sale, the webbing pair for under twenty bucks, the others were under thirty.
Long rider’s gear sells english style flat pressed rope reins and I believe you can custom order the length since you have a big guy, or you could add a pig-tail or romal-type spanking strap, that’ll give you the lenght you need and could probably be clipped onto any rein…
One of the best things I’ve discovered having bought a Paso Fino is the reins!
Nylon or cotton in various thicknesses and lengths with clips!

I do too but when you loose a horse the split reins drop to the ground and hopefully he is trained to stand or at least he steps on a rein and jerks himself to a halt. If you get bucked off again the long split rein gives you something to hang onto. When I get back to the truck and trailer I can ground tie with the reins and unsaddle,
I rode in gaming reins for years but consider them unsafe if anything happens. A horse going down is a sure thing IF you ride cross country alot. Holes, ditches, just plain spills are part of the ride and the long split reins really increase your odds of NOT loosing a horse.
I really hate horse hair reins even when soaked in fabric softener for long periods. Give me a good 3/4 inch leather rein well soaked in oil. and about 6 feet long.
Snaps to me are another NO NO. If you ride in a bit I have seen studies where they say the metal on metal jingle of the snap on the bit become irritating to the horse. While I discard studies at times that one make sense to me so it is a good buckel only on the end for me.
To loose my horse for me is a good chance he will die so every advantage I can take to keep him safe I will use.
I have a few reins like what you are wanting
The first set is a 10 foot marine grade rope that I put scissor snaps on.
Also have Biothane Beta with the option of buckling them on to the bit or you cna buckle them onto scissor snaps.
I’ve done the same thing with my favorite reins, 10-12 foot flat leather english style buckle rein.
A friend recently suggested that, instead of securing both ends of the reins to the bit directly, we shoud use a small stip of leather and tie it on one side in case you get into a pickle. That way it will break away safely rather than your hourse stepping on his reins and then freaking out to the extent of a possible disaster. My horse is very tall and LOVES to play in the water and he’s reached up and caught his rein a number of times…so I followed her advice and made my “break away” reins.
good luck

Having my reins break away is the last thing I want. When I need them most they will break and off runs the horse and his chance of survival is 50-50.
I want good sturdy reins and teach the horse to ground tie.
Tie a twin string to his halter and turn him out to graze. The first little while he steps on the string and panics and pulls but before long he just lifts his head, feels the restraint and stops and lifts the offending foot. No panic, just common sense. This is a start to ground tying and down the road when he steps on a rein he will just stop lifting the head and lift the foot but he doesn;t run off in a panic.
Teach hobbling, teach ground tying and you are on the way to NOT loosing a horse. I have left my Strider up to 1 1/4 hours unattended just standing in a driveway with the reins laying at his feet.
If and when I wipe out and go flying over my horses head he will just stand up, shake himself off and weight patiently for me.
I will also lead through a tricky place and if the horse suddenly jumps back, rears or whatever I want to know my head stall and reins can take it.

10 ft roping reins for $21.50:

That’s just one style. They’ve got tons of different rope/colors/snaps/ties/etc.
I second the sunsethalters. I have a their flat rope reins and I love them.
