Commercial haulers in winter?

General question here - do commercial haulers go cross-country in the winter? For example, Michigan, North Dakota, Idaho or Iowa to Arizona? Do they have “set” times when they start or stop doing trips like this?

Yup they do. I shipped one from Ontario to Alberta in January and then back again in January two years later. I got quotes from three or four different commercial shippers in Canada, most were taking loads every two weeks or so cross country. I can’t imagine it would be any different through the northern states.
Lots of shippers heading north-south as well, ie Ontario to Florida and back with show horses.

Not to mention racehorses.

We regularly get commercial haulers coming into Arizona, mostly from Canada and the northern tier but also from quarantine barns for international importation. Also the huge Arabian show in February and many other large breed and discipline shows attract participants from all over. It’s far easier on a horse to ship it in to Arizona during the late fall/winter because of our extreme temperatures during the summer months.

Yep my hauler was texting me blizzard pics in north Dakota last weekend. “Not gonna make it in time” 6 hours to go 100 miles.
