10% plus board, farrier, vet and training costs. I will pay for a pro to ride in the video. I will pay for a pro to demo ride for a buyer. But any sales horses has to be in some amount of work, so the seller needs to pay for the rides. My commission covers online advertising, responding to all inquiries, showing the horse to prospective buyers and handling the PPE/shipping. There is one important cavaet; I only sell a specific breed that is in high demand and short supply. Horses sell fairly quickly enough.
I do think it depends on the market. If you are dealing with high end horses, it is different than if you are selling on the lower end of the market. Given the economy, my model could really run up the costs to me quickly enough if I did not have a breed that sold easily.
