I could swear that I’d read a thread awhile back about non-Wahl/Lister blades compatible with the Lister Star clipper, but I’ll be darned if I can find it now and I’m having a hard time getting answers from Google. I’m looking for a medium blade to fit my Stars. Are there interchangeable products made by other manufacturers or should I be looking for Lister’s product alone?
Premier makes blades that fits and I know some prefer them to the Lister ones (I have not tried them myself). Here’s the mediums: https://www.premier1supplies.com/p/premier-medium-clipping-blade-set?criteria=lister+star&species_id=0&cat_id=0
Thank you- that’s it!
Please report how you like them. I just purchased the Lister medium blades and am not happy with how the body clip I did with them turned out. I usually clip with the fine blades and have not had any issues.
What didn’t you care for?
The fine blade is basically clipping with a #20. Too close for my taste. The medium was recommended here but I haven’t used it yet. On paper it’s more comparable to clipping with a #10, which is also a little closer than I like, but it should be a better length.
Anecdotally, my original Lister blades underperformed out of the box until sent for sharpening. Once sent out and sharpened, they are excellent.
They just didn’t clip the hair very well–maybe I should get them sharpened but I hate to think about doing that since they were brand new. I’ll probably try that before I use them next time though. And In my opinion they didn’t seem to leave the hair any longer than the fine blades. The box they came in said medium but they look identical to my fine blades when I compared them.
LOVE these blades, and their sharpening service. If horses are clean, I usually get 10-12 full body clips from a fresh set of blades.
I agree about the Premier blades. Have been told, by both the sharpening service I use and someone who clips for money, that they stay sharp longer and are more durable blades. Personally, I’ve been using the same set of Premier blades for years (clipping a couple of small horses with thick, dense coats). Have never bothered to try the Lister blades that came with my clippers.
Subbying so I can buy these when I next need blades
Has anyone ever clipped with their coarse blade? That looks like it might be a #5. I like a T84 (#8) for body clipping. I clip every month May to October- my horse is pony-coated- and I don’t mind leaving it a little longer, especially if it’s easier to blend. That was my biggest problem with the fine blade.
I do the vast majority of my clipping with the Premier1 medium (2.03mm) blades (including the legs and as much of the face as the horse will let me), and do finishing/smaller areas with the T84 blades (2.4mm) as needed. They blend very well.
I bought the Premier blades for my lister stars and the blade housing (the plastic piece) was absolutely destroyed by the clippers. I went through about 3 sets of blades before I went back to the Lister Star blades. No trouble with the Lister Star blades. I buy the medium length blades.
