Compliment to Fox Hunters

I enjoy reading the threads on this forum. I ride dressage and sometimes things get a bit intense on that side of the fence but you all sound like you have a great deal of fun. I think I may have to give it a go one of these days. Thanks so much for offering me threads with pleasant, helpful and fun subject matter.

any day riding is a good day

it is just pure fun being out with the hounds and horses.
I’ve never been on two hunts that were the same,
and no competitive pressures.
you will notice some change from your present sport.

PS trainers are often NOT pleased.
who wants to do WORK when you can have FUN

PPS Old??? I’m collecting SSI while you are a mere juvenile

OP, where are you located?
So many Hunts are represented here, you could find a helping hand, most likely!
I’m in western New York, if that’s any help!
Good luck & you will have fun!

Magic-fox hunters are the nicest people you will meet. We love riding in the woods with good friends, watching the happiest creatures in the world do their job. It’s too much fun!

I am in Washington state. Woodbrook is nearby. I met a couple of their members and they are really great people. I attended a New Years hunt a couple of years ago, following in an SUV with one of their senior members who no longer rides. She was very informative and it was lots of fun and the group was very welcoming. Plus I really liked the breakfast afterwards. I am not much for jumping anymore (I am an older model, 53) but I guess I could follow with those that don’t jump as well.

That’s not old

I haul a lady to the hunts that will be 83 yrs young in August. She also beagles with me, sometimes from horseback.

I agree–that’s not old! Go on, give it a go–you will be so glad you did!

Oh but you haven’t been on here when the Hound Shows are going on! The dog poo really starts flying about who’s “bitch” is better. It can be brutal just brutal :wink:

Armandh you hit the nail on the head. I am continually amazed at the pettiness that some posters get wrapped up in (do not frequent the dressage forum so am not referring to them or any other BB in particular). Topics I never thought could start an argument somehow take over and a “feeding frenzy” begins.
I come to the Hunting BB to find solace and to “come up for air” so to speak . It’s brutal out there on some of those threads and I have come to the conclusion some of it is about competitive pressures mixed in with a hint of jealousy. I have to think though if this were a mostly male horse forum would the “tone” be the same? Better? Worse? It is nice to know that if you have a question here that has probably been asked a million times the poster does not have to sit and analyze, over analyze and panic that there question will either be:
a) misconstrued and thrown totally out of proportion
and/or
b) worry the other poster will give the  and say “do we have to go over this again” instead of saying "I am sure if you did a quick search on X topic you will find a wealth of information .

It is fun over here and if I ever get out on an actual hunt or some hound exercises (am so close I can almost taste it) I can actually contribute more and have some hair raising, am I nuts, the weather was perfect, the sound of the hounds was music to my ears stories to tell as well. Until then I can just sit and share the excitement when I read others stories and be happy for them

I started reading your forum because I plan on retiring, eventually, in VA or NC. I used to live in NC and loved it. I wanted to learn a bit more about the people and horses before I made permanent choices. I really love dressage and most aspects of the competitive end of it, but I have reached a point in my life where having fun and enjoying myself is of prime importance. I will definitely keep in mind that there are people older than myself enjoying the comraderie of the hunt field. Sounds like fun.

Get a Coggins Test and come up her to the Fraser Valley Hunt.
We have a webpage, too. Woodbrook and FVH are very good friends.
Sometimes we hunt below the line in Bellingham. Get on their mailing list.

I’ve got to agree with the OP, you hunting types seems like a friendly bunch. I’ve always wanted to try hunting but life always seems to have other plans. I grew up riding hunter/jumper and my trainer about had a heart attack when I brought up the idea of taking my hot house flower TB out on a hunt. To give her some credit he probably would have freaked out.

Life’s settled down again to the point where I can get back into horse ownership, but I just got orders to Hawaii. Looks like it’ll be dressage for a few years. Maybe I’ll pop over a jump every now and then.

Below the line!!???

Foxtrot!!! Below the line!!? Do you mean THE BORDER???:eek: How’s dat work??? Do ya’ll hafta go thru metal detectors? Have to remove your boots for inspection? Doesn’t it kinda slow down the hunt some?!! And when they do the “liquids in the bottle” inspections; do the border patrols take a sip!!! ;):lol::lol:
So are Canadian foxes better to chase than US ones?!
How do you know when you’re over the line? Are there signs? Does the air smell different?!! (less hot air in Canada I’m thinkin"!!) Is the border wall jumpable there?!! I have a lot of questions! (and too much coffee this mornin’ I’m thinkin’…!)
