How did you find a farrier willing to work with them and/or has worked with them? I’m struggling to find someone in my area and really don’t want someone to use my guy as their learning horse…especially as my endurance hopeful!
If you’re talking about any of the Easy Shoes there are some really good instructional videos online for them. When I have the NG’s put on my mare this summer, it was the first time my farrier had done them (had worked a little with other glue ons before) and they came out fantastically. Most people I know that use them put them on themselves- I know I would have no trouble doing it but since my brother is my farrier we kind of made it a team effort. You could also try contacting the company who makes the shoes you want to have put on and see who they recommend in the area.
Thanks - I keep debating learning how to do this all myself!
I did finally get a response from someone off the Easy Care website list of farriers in my area, so I’m hopeful!
BTW- do you use on all 4 or just fronts?
I just did fronts and did gloves on the backs. I used them for a 30 at Ride Between the Rivers and a bunch of orienteering competitions. They held up really well and my mare felt fantastic in them
I had argued with my previous farrier for about a year over composite shoes and he would not budge. I finally found a farrier through an endurance friend that was not only experienced in composite shoes but also was a dealer for Renegade boots who sizes my mares for me. A lot of farriers don’t understand how rugged some of the trails we do are. It’s important to stick to your guns and do what is best for your horses.
Yes, it is very difficult to convince some of them!
I found someone, semi-local, so I might be paying a bit more in the travel fee side of it if needed - but he is willing to help us!
Maybe helpful. Shows how our farrier applies the N/G shoes on our horses … http://enduranceintrospection.com/wp/shoeing-success-in-the-land-of-whatever-works/
Thanks Patti - I did locate someone through easy care website that thinks gluing on N/Gs would be a good option for us Now just timing…
