Composite stirrups not allowed in Hunters?

Hi,

I guess I missed when this happened. I was asking my friend to see if the tack shop had gotten anymore of the composite stirrups in the grey color, she said yes but you can show hunters in those anymore… I said what ? When?

Can anyone clue me in please, I must have been under a rock lately.

Thank you

i think your friend is confused.

Here’s a link to the new rules, effective 12/1.

BLACK composite stirrups ARE now allowed in EQ divisions.

Hunter Rules

Eq Rules

.When showing in the Hunter/Jumping Seat Equitation section it is recommended that riders use traditional stainless
steel stirrup irons that promote proper position of the foot in the iron as well as a correct leg position. It is further
recommended that riders use stirrup irons that allow judges a clear and unobstructed view of the position of the foot
in the stirrup. Judges may not eliminate a rider for using a particular style of stirrup iron. (Exception: see EQ101.4)

That’s what I thought, that they just accepted them into the Eq. Divisions.

What further confused me is that I saw an ad for a pair of black composite stirrups being offered for sale because the person can not use them in hunters…

I have contacted USEF, and I am waiting for response from them. I just find it odd, since just about every BNR showing hunters is using them right now…

That’s really weird. I looked through the new rules for hunters and didn’t see anything in the “tack and equipment” section stating that they were no longer allowed.

Maybe that person who placed the ad has a dimwit trainer who told them that? Theres never been any Hunter rules regarding them, bendy stirrups or offsets. Eq is different, there have been.

But they are ugly and look terrible in a formal hunter class. They look like jousting stirrups IMO.

I heard back from USEF : there is no rule against them in hunters… So that’s that and no I am no longer confused LOL
