Computer geeks - need some ideas on foaling camera/Internet help

barn and house are 250 feet apart. Barn is metal. On DSL to the house, barn has no phone lines. Currently I have a wireless system that has a receiver to a tv, but would like to be able to view off smartphone / Cloud based. Current system is radio wave based I think, and gets tons of interference from computer keyboard, phones, etc.
I have tried to research, but am overwhelmed with information.
Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for?

  1. Try to bridge wireless to barn, get new cameras that magically can hook up to something in barn like a drop cam?
  2. Something else?
  3. Give up entirely?
    Thanks

I wanted a dropcam but decided against it since our internet is limited to 30 GB each month, from what I’ve read, usage would go over that.

www.foalingcamera.com seems like they have good set ups.

I’m trying a cheaper 2 camera ($250) wireless version from Lorex. If it doesn’t work well enough, I may try a system from riverwind.

Good luck.

I’m putting in (finally) a Swann DVR/camera system with boosters on each camera to help the signal reach the house. That’s going in Thursday so then I will report!

I tested my cameras tonight. Lorex LW82 - on sale right now.
House is probably 300 ft from barn.
Barn is metal and heavily insulated. Fortunately there are windows about 9 ft up so I can get a signal if I put the camera on the window ledge. Still the signal is weak. Ive ordered another antenna that is suppose to extend the range.

Pros - Picture quality is quite good and night vision is good as well. Overall I’m happy with it.
Cons - I do wish the monitor worked off a battery. It has to be plugged in to view.

This set up can be viewed through Skype, that may be an option for you.
