Conditioning spray for dry skin?

Is there any good sprays out there for conditioning, moisturizing dry skin? One of my horses was recently body clipped and his skin is pretty dry. It’s still too cool for a good bathing with a conditioner, so in the meantime I was looking for something to spray on. Any ideas? My DH wants to use baby oil, but ACK…the mess and dust attractant! I don’t want to do that.

This should work well

I like the Eqyss sprays, though some of them have kind of a strong smell. There’s also Healthy Haircare on the cheaper side. Neither of those leaves a slippery finish.

I prefer and suggest to my clipping clients the pink Healthy Haircare. I use it year round about once a week, more in the summer when I am doing a lot of hosing.

Healthy Haircare is my favorite or a good hot toweling with skin so soft usually does the trick.

Applying a product to the skin is a stop gap measure, adding oil in the form of flax seed, or BOS, or rice bran, or coconut oil etc., will work to fix this from the inside.

Shaply’s # 2 oil, (a little on a hot damp towel) is my favorite post clip treatment.

I tried the VO5 Hot Oil treatment on my mare after doing a full body clip years ago (I think I read about it here on COTH). Worked very well and did not make the hair slippery.

I also like the Healthy Hair Care spray.

Feeding ground flax does make a big difference. My gelding last winter was getting a bit flaky and scurfy in spots. Cleared up in less than 2 weeks after adding about a cup of ground flax a day.

I use Healthy Haircare daily and have used it on many horses, and I love it. Never greasy and over time it really makes their coats extra shiny. I towel in circular motions after I spray and let it set in. Usually I spray it on every time they are wet, but it also works dry. I also use the spray bottle below, and it is amazing.

You all are awesome. Thanks for all the suggestions. This horse is funny, because his coat, though clipped, is actually VERY shiny. it’s an anomoly! So not sure why it’s dry. Just must be the clipping? I feed him Triple Crown Complete and Purina Amplify, and he really looks great other than some dandruff. I’m going to check out the recommendations here. Thanks, again.

If it’s true dandruff, then it’s not really a lack of moisture problem, just like with human or small animal dandruff. You can try a high omega 3 oil or flax in lieu of the Amplify. You might want to try Equiderma or something until you can shampoo.

LOVE Healthy Haircare! I also add it to my fly spray bottles… a little goes a long way!

You need a cactus cloth in a bucket full of hot water and a little healthy hair. Dip in, wring out, and rub rub rub. Rinse and repeat, it will get down to the skin.

Healthy haircare is the best. When I bought my grey mare her hair, mane and tail were coarse and crunchy from overuse of Quic Silver. Nasty. I didn’t want anything with silicone or alcohol and found this product. I use it after any bath and my horse loves the massage she gets with it. Now we only use Quic Silver 2 days before a show and at the show. Her hair is soft and her tail is longer. Can’t recommend it enough.

I make up some laser sheen with a bit of the healthy haircare mixed in. Works great. In personal experience, if I go with just the diluted healthy haircare stuff, the coat can get a little gunky after a bit.

I LOVE the Healthy Haircare moisturizer. My boy is prone to dry skin in the winter, and the Healthy Haircare along with feeding Cocosoya Oil, his coat and skin look fantastic. I use it daily with no problems.

Long time HHC user too, but I now also LOVE the Foxfire coat polish in the bright orange bottle. It makes the coat look and feel like you used show sheen, but it doesn’t have the slippery silicone. My “golden boy” of the herd gets the Foxfire and everyone else gets HHC.

Thanks, again, all. I did order some Healthy Haircare to try along with another Eqyss spray. I’ll see if that makes a difference.
