Cone of shame my cat won’t be able to get off in less than 30 seconds

The ZenCone ain’t it.

He has a corneal ulcer so it needs to stop him from getting at his face, but also allow him to eat and drink. Needs to be soft or he will have a panic attack, try to hide under the furniture, and throttle himself.

Send help for my poor big lad.

how are you tying the cone on?

I have found for many cats, tying just around the loops of the cone around the neck doesn’t work. Instead, run a long tie through the loops in the cone, cross the ties under the chest and come up behind the elbows and tie on the top.

One particularly acrobat cat, I needed to take the ties back into one of the loops on the base of the cone again, then tie it.

can you do a big donut instead of a cone?

Is the cone clear? If not, try clear instead of solid.

I use these flowers. They have 2 velcro straps for closure. They tolerate them well and I got 2 so one is getting washed while the other is in use. Amazon.

Oh so you’re a real person who has exactly what I was just looking at online. Can your cat get at his face when he’s wearing this? Do you have it hooked on to a collar, a harness…?

I think one of these is probably the best approach if it’ll keep him off his face. He can see and lie down, and it shouldn’t interfere with his eating or drinking. He’s not really pawing at himself, but he doesn’t need to start. Especially if we get referred to surgery.

It isn’t set up to attach to anything. I went and grabbed one. It has 3 velcro straps and they thread through plastic loops that are roomy and adjustable. I think I just closed the “collar” one for security pretty snug and then the middle one. Leaving the 3rd one loose let’s the flower spread out more so they can see more and eat, drink more easily. He won’t be able to get to his face or eyes, the flower foam is thicker than a #2 pencil and stiff enough that that keeps its shape.

Off to order my poor long suffering Moose Man a flower for his face.

I got a small because they were kittens. Order the correct size (or a few, they are cheap).

Do you happen to have a link to the one you purchased? I can’t find one with the velcro hook and loop- lots of plain velcro, which he will get out of in an instant.

I like those flowers! I had a cat that had eye surgery and then an ulcer after they didn’t send her home with a cone (it was just a little growth removal from the upper lid and had 1 stitch, so teeny tiny - guess they thought she didn’t need it) and we ended up with an inflatable donut. That worked for her but man was it annoying at night when she would scratch at it and the zipper jangled around, lol.
