Has anyone tried this? Feedback? Just saw an ad in The Horse magazine and wondering if it’s worth a try for a mare who has trailering anxiety after a mishap that involved her breaking her halter and rolling down the trailer ramp (long story…). Working on slow and steady reintroduction of loading, but if this could help with some of the anxiety it might be worth a try.

I have 3 samples from my vet, have used 2 of them. First for me shipping out my horses stable mates to the hospital them the 2nd for when his paddock buddies left. It didn’t do anything and I had to jump to the xylazine.

I’m not surprised pheromones weren’t effective enough for a case of anxiety severe enough to need sedation. That would have been a nice alternative, though.
Having seen the success people have with the feline version, I think it’d be worth a try.

Has anyone gotten their free sample and used it? I just ordered my free sample and will be curious to see if it helps at all.
I’ve used it (although I ordered not free sample) and it worked very well. Better than any supplement. Not as good as a drug though.
Used it while walking my girl in new environments (she’s a little herd bound) and it worked fantastic! Until we moved, now gotta do it all over again, haha, but it still works!!
Great for OTTB learning to haul places
I have used it three separate times on my 4 yr old OTTB. He is super quite at home but the first time I took him to our local public equestrian park he had an complete melt down, was drenched in sweat, tried pulling away, wouldn’t tie, and took over half an hour to get tacked up. The following Saturday I tried the Confidence EQ with amazing results. He was a total gentleman and acted exactly like he does at home. I applied it about half an hour before I started grooming him to get him ready to go. We were at the facility for over four hours and I could never tell when it wore off. I also used it a couple of weeks ago when we went Xc schooling. Once again I applied it about half an hour before we left, we hauled an hour and 45 minutes to the facility (where he had never been before) and he walked off as cool as a cucumber and tied to the trailer perfectly. I think it’s a perfect tool for a horse that tends to get nervous in the trailer/going to new places. I think it just allows the horse’s normal personality to come through.
It’s worth a try. I am one of the people who have had success with the feline facial pheromones. Not so much for marking as typical multi cat household fights. Actually solved the problem, no territorial battles, no hissy fits, no midnight tussles over who gets the bed with me and no howling ( I have 3 Siamese, used to get noisy). They are all so much calmer, even the psycho, ADD one. They sleep together in a little pile on my bed now.
If the science can do that much for notoriously contrary cats? I would certainly give it a try for anxiety in horses. What have you got to lose? If it works, it works almost right away.

I got my free sample a few weeks ago and ended up trying it out right away–my horse got all amped up about something, so I figured I would give the Confidence EQ a shot. I know you’re supposed to use it 30 minutes prior to the stressful event, though, so maybe that made a difference. My horse got all nervous and was dancing around in the cross-ties, head up, snorting, doing the “tiny nervous poops,” etc. I put the gel all over his nostrils (he wasn’t a huge fan, but tolerated it) and I do think that it made a difference. It wasn’t dramatic, but he did eventually calm down. Not sure if it was the Confidence EQ, or him just settling, etc., but I am certainly going to order some to have on hand just in case of stressful situations.
I had my nervous TB to a farrier clinic at my vets office yesterday. He had to be sedated twice the last time we did this particular clinic. Strange place, smells, lots of people milling about, he gets worried. Before he got worked up (I think this is key), my vet wanted to try this stuff as he hadn’t used it before. It takes 30 min to kick in so a little planning is warranted. Vic stood there quietly while the group milled around him picking up his feet and talking. He was very relaxed. I was impressed! I am going to try this prior to a ride and see how it goes. I will have to say I was more impressed than I thought I would be. I think timing is key. I think it MAY be less effective once the horse is melting down.

I have a friend who recently tried it on her horse who has major trailer loading problems. She said it didn’t make much of a difference. It seems like an interesting idea though.
