Looking for opinions on her confirmation. Looking to purchase for western all around show horse and maybe English as well.
I can CONFIRM that her conFORMation looks pretty nice. She looks like a cross between a reiner type body and a WP horse. The big time WP horses look more like TBs (and giraffes), usually 16h or better. She doesn’t look more than 15.1?
I think conformationally she’d be fine for anything, but you maybe want to consider your competition, if they’ll have the more giraffe-like horses that are the trend. May not matter if she’s stellar, but it’s so hard to tell. Is this for local/regional or bigger ideals?
Long in the back. Heavy bodied. How does she move?
If you are working with a good trainer, going by what the trainer tells you, as far as being suitable for you and what you want to do, is one good way to get the right horse for the task.
When I look at her I see Reiner written all over her. She’s a cute mover and should be able to do anything you ask her to do. She is a little long, and a little heavy bodied, and a little downhill- all characteristics of a Reiner.
Granted how competitive she will be depends on the ‘type’ of other horses you’re competing against. She may be able to move as well as the 17 hand tb type hunters but it’s going to be hard to place in an hunter class if that’s what you’re competing against.
That being said, I have a reining gelding and have taken him to smaller schooling dressage shows and he’s placed in the top 2 every time. His level or training and submissiveness and the fact that he moves like a mini warmblood offsets his little14.2 size…
careful. she looks like she might be back at the knee.

She is pretty cute. If she is over at the knees, pass. I couldn’t tell from the still pics, but looks suspicious in the video.
Appreciate the comments. I like her but I have heard enough to make me doubt. Can’t afford another complicated horse…already have plenty of those!

I’ll take over at the knee any day. That’s one of those cosmetic things, like a roman nose or a big head. But back at the knee is a no go, ever. No matter how nice the horse is otherwise.
Just something to keep in mind as well (in case you’re interested in this horse based on a video and haven’t ridden the horse). Plenty of horses move beautifully in the round pen and on the lunge, but are very different under saddle. If my gelding moved under saddle like he does on the lunge, my work would be done! But, under saddle he is much more forward, doesn’t stay in the bridle as consistently, and hasn’t established that consistent rate of going that he does on the lunge line. We’re working on that, but just a thought in case you have only seen this video of her moving wtihout a rider.

I would pass because of a friend’s horse was very over at the knees and turned very arthritic at a fairly young age and was crippled because of it by his late teens. Granted it depends on the degree of it. I agree on back at the knee, too.
LOVE her! I think she is more leggy than long in the back, in fact, I did not think she was long in the back at all. I would absolutely go see her in person before crossing her off the list, and you did not mention a price. How is she to ride? Temperment? I really like her smooth way of going, again, you did not mention price or what you are able to afford, and that would tell whether or not she is a good buy. The one photo does make her look like she is back at the knee on the right but you will need to see her in person to confirm.
I like but not love her because of the straight up and down shoulder and pasterns, not a nice gait, IMO. Slightly long back I could blink at but then there’s a neck shorter than I like and a downhill build which just suggests later navicular with the straigh shoulder and pasterns short and straight, so I would pass, all around.
Also, when trying to spell conformation think of this, try to break the word down to its basic: “How does the horse conform to the breed’s standard?”

Mine is back at the knee and in general looks a lot like this horse. She jumps 3ft and works hard 5-6 days a week. I never knew this was that big a deal, guess I won’t tell her.

Keep doing this and report back in 5 years.
