Conformation + Hoof Critique— 20 yo Holsteiner Gelding

Hi! Interested in hearing your thoughts on this 20 yo Holsteiner gelding— retired A circuit H/J, not being ridden due to lack of time on my part, but would love to bring him into light work within the year. Please give thoughts on his hooves (from what photos I could take being by myself!) I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

Its hard to say without a sole view, but I’d say these feet are starting to trend towards long toe and run forward heel. I can see the farrier has chopped off a lot of toe last time around but perhaps has not been addressing the heels enough.

Is the horse sound? I see nothing to suggest he cannot start light work. Obviously he’s got decent functional conformation just no muscles.

Many horses after a lifetime of shoes get run forward hooves especially if the trim cycle gets a little long. It can be corrected if the farrier knows their stuff, but some just seem to accept it as normal. Farrier needs to be taking out heels and bar.

Yes, he’s very sound I just don’t have a whole lotta time to work him at the moment. I’m hoping that will change in the next six months to a year.

Thanks for the feedback about his feet!
