Considering breeding my mare, suggestions/opinions on pedigree?

I’m considering breeding my mare more seriously as time goes on and I think more about it.
She is currently registered with Oldenburg/ISR in the Pre Mare book, however I’m in the process of getting DNA test done to confirm pedigree (which I didn’t have before) and have confirmed that once this goes through she will be bumped to the Main Mare Book based on her score (she scored just 2 points shy of Premium…:sigh:).
The problem, or rather something I want to learn on, are what bloodlines would cross well with hers. Her dams lines are here and her sire is here (hopefully those links work!) Also please let me know what weak points you see in her that you think need some improving- or things you like about her, anything to help me learn.

My mare herself is a very nice 3ft adult ams horse, would make a nice 3’6ft with some time- she’s only in her third season. Has been trained by me pretty much from the get go and does have a nice brain but can sometimes have her…opinions, so I would love for the stallion to have a killer personality/rideability. Would like to stay on the med-taller size as she herself is only about 16hh and don’t want anything smaller than her.

Ideal outcome: a nice 16:1-16:3hh adult am friendly 3’6ft+ hunter who’s brave enough for the derby ring. Something with a little more self engine, scope, and good presence.
Some pictures of my mare, please excuse the “hunter belly”, these pictures were taken after show season after some down time. :o

No one?

@MissingASock it looks like the link to the sire’s pedigree isn’t working. It isn’t opening up for me on my phone. :frowning: is that me, or is there a link issue?

Not just you–it looks like the link is to a file on the OP’s computer, not to a file on the internet anywhere. His name might be Canada’s Prestige, but I can’t turn up anything on a quick google.

If I squint really hard I can almost make out words… might be easier if you just tell us the sire & dam names (and breed/registry, if it’s relevant).

Good grief…I really should be better at simple technology!
His name is Canada’s Prestige, his sire is http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/prestige+vdl and his dam is http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/feldbluete

Sire’s information is;
Sire: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/prestige+vdl
Dam: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/feldbluete

So your mares bloodlines are Canada’s Prestige Empire x Apache x Perlkonig I

Stallion’s pedigree for those interested https://www.horsetelex.com//horses/pedigree/553862.

Your mare looks like a mix of jumping and dressage lines.

What stallion would you guys pair with my mare? I had to rule out a few because a lot of the stallions I was liking had Flirt pretty up close. But I was thinking of possibly Balta’Czar because of he seems to be known to pass along excellent temperments and nice hunters. I was also thinking of Checkmate because he’s here in Canada, I hear the farm is amazing to work with (We actually have a Chacco’s Rubin colt born this year) and his babies look quite nice, but I’m wanting to see a few of his more grown up kids doing things before I choose.

I’ve always liked Cunningham as a hunter sire. From my experience, he brings size, jump, movement and passes on a good temperament.

Have you considered cobra one? Has offspring that compete in, jumpers, dressage, hunters, and eventing. He has shown in hunters, jumpers, and dressage, himself. Approved, etc. Stud fee is very reasonable, also have a special for $450 until Jan 15th, than price goes back up to regular rate.

I haven’t even heard of this stallion before. Do you have a page for him? I could only find an old thread here on COTH and an older video of him from Jump Start Farm showing him in the hunter ring.

By now people here know what I am going to say. I have a Crown Affair colt that is amazing. He is very well conformed and his temperament is beyond compare. I am an ammy, so temperament was VERY important to me. I could not be more pleased and recommend Crown Affair every time someone asks for a hunter with a nice temperament. So far, he is 2 1/2 and has been to two starting colts clinics - and had offers to buy him each time!

Please Facebook Her. I do not own him, I am just being nice, because I love his offspring. He’s absolutely amazing. Hunters/Jumpers/Eventers/Dressage does it all

Just as an FYI, if you’re going to advertise a stallion as being successful in the dressage ring, you should be aware that anyone can look him up and see that his last under saddle outing was scored in the 50’s at first level, he didn’t do so well in the FEI 5YOs, either. If he’s a decent hunter, I would focus on advertising his accomplishments there. Especially if you don’t own him, his owners may not want him being advertised in a way that is going to highlight a glaring negative.

@Cobra One on another thread you tooted him as an all arounder “does it all.” Does he do it ‘all’ well? Or speaking of doing it all well via his produce? If a stallion’s offspring result is so multi-disciplined it reduces the potential for someone breeding for a specific to achieve that.

Keep in mind that most breeders are breeding for a specific discipline and that there are many stallions who fit the requirement of being highly successful in competition and in producing for that discipline. Their reputation also places more value on the get. Just to throw this out at you since you’re making all these claims.

@MissingASock, maybe Bon Balou? I really like some of the older jumping lines for increased power, especially in the hind end (the G line, by Goldfisch II - so some of the more recent G names to look at in pedigree would be Graphit or Grannus). Graf Top is one of the bigger G-name stallions right now, but I like Bon Balou on paper for combining G&A. (And Argentinus combines the A line with old D in his damline). Bon Balou has since passed away so is offered frozen-only, not sure if that’s a dealbreaker for you.

Staying with Dreamscape (since you mentioned Checkmate) I’m actually a fan of Lestat based on what you’ve mentioned. I think he’s got a nice hind end and a terrific jump. He is on the shorter side of what you’re looking at (16’1 1/2) but maybe worth considering. I haven’t seen many of his offspring but I’m familiar with his sire’s (Lordanos) offspring and they tend to be somewhat consistent in type. if Lestat is similar, then I think that would be a very nice option.

Wanting to bump this up to revisit.

I’d like to stay with fresh if possible, because I hear it’s easier and I won’t have to ship my mare out to a clinic for breeding. So many staying with a stallion in Canada or a breeder that ships fresh, or maybe even somewhere close to the Ontario boarder for the US? I’m always down for a random road trip!
I really like the look of Cunningham, Lestat was an awesome suggestion, or even Quidam Blue, Do you guys see anything wrong with those possible pairings?
