Considering Sewickley hunter pace this September -- has anyone gone?

It’s a two hour drive for me, but their hunter pace was enthusiastically pitched to me over the weekend, along the lines of “If you like hunter pacing and you haven’t been to Sewickely… you’re missing out!” Has anyone done this one? How’s their course design? Also, the prize list says they have an award for “best costumed” – does that mean, like, “doctor, pirate, clown” or does that mean “nicest ratcatcher turnout”? I have a need to know, here. (And yes, I contacted them directly but probably this is not as burning a question for them as it is for me. Still waiting to hear back.) I’ve been to hunter paces by HCIBH, NM-MVH (MD) and RT-BMH (PA), all of which were lovely, welcoming experiences on fun, well-marked courses. If it’s along those lines, we’ll have a great time.

Also, because it’s such a haul, suggestions for an overnight location closer to the event? Our horses are experienced campers and would do well in a small turnout paddock or round pen for the night. Failing that, they also picket to a high line provided we have a place to string it.

I have gone the past 2 years.

The first year was nice, last year was terrible, and we probably won’t be going back this year.

The course was VERY short last year, and none of it went through the more scenic areas. If some of their main trails were temporarily unavailable I would have rather had them cancel it- such a disappointment.I felt like we paid $75-80 per person for a 1 hour trail ride! Also, there was no photographer last year, and he had gotten some really great shots the previous year, so I was looking forward to that. More disappointment.

The farm it is held at (Snuggery Farm) is BEAUTIFUL and the food is good. And they usually have an open bar
You won’t need overnight accommodations if you only have a 2 hour haul… its all over by early afternoon.
