Constitution Retired

Was looking at this photo and wondering, what is going on with the horse’s barrel? http://www.winstarfarm.com/articles/constitution-multiple-g1-winner-by-tapit-retires-to-winstar.html

Weird lump and parallel lines?
Was he having some type of allergic reaction?
Hernia?

I think it’s just a weird moment in time with the muscle and skin stretched a certain way and particular lighting.

Thanks for answering my off the wall question!
I can see some similarities, but the bulge in the photo I referenced was pronounced, where the musculature in your photo was more even. Do you see what I mean?

I see the bulge and truly do not think it is anything more than a weird moment in time. Definitely not a hernia. Maybe a welt from a bug bite or something, but even that I doubt.

OK. Thanks for responding.
I suppose I have not seen many photos of horses that I know very well, in action, so haven’t seen these weird moments in time.
Probably for the best, would have worried me if I thought I could miss such a large lump/mass.

I know most of these racing beasts are gone over with a fine tooth comb, so just wondered if perhaps he was being retired because of a problem that was not mentioned.

Does anyone else find it unusual that Pletcher runs everyone of his horses in a dropped noseband?

So much for dealing with each horse as an individual vs they all “get with the program”.
