Continental Kennel Club - What kind of registry is it?

Is it just for puppy mills, so they can sell “registered puppies”. Do they have dog shows, can dogs registered with CKC show at AKC shows?

Totally fake. Requirements for registration are you send in a couple photographs and sign a paper that your dog is a purebred. That’s it. IOW, no pedigree chain of registered ancestors needed.

No, Continental Kennel Club dogs cannot be shown at AKC shows.

It is not a recognized registry and has become a haven for a lot of people who AKC has suspended (due to things like faking registrations, etc.)

A CKC registered dog CAN be shown in PERFORMANCE events at AKC shows IF it is spayed/neutered and ‘registered’ either as a purebred without papers or a mixed breed. (Special requirements for each.)

CKC is in it for the $$$ only, no shows.

No, the CKC registration does not make a dog eligible for AKC performance events. A CKC-registered dog can only compete in AKC performance events if it also obtains an AKC-issued PAL/ILP registration or an AKC Canine Partners listing. IOW, a “Continental Kennel Club” registration is not acceptable to get you in to an AKC trial.

Exactly. That is what I meant by my post. My dogs have had ‘registrations’ with the AKC, UKC, ASCA, and SKC, earning titles in each of these national dog clubs. Having registration in one doesn’t prevent you from showing in another registry’s performance events, AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOWS THEIR RULES for obtaining a ‘performance number.’

I wouldn’t support the CKC with my money. Puppy mill registry.

Of course, in Canada, the CKC is the Canadian Kennel Club, our version of the AKC (I’m posting that so nobody scorns Canadians proudly showing off their CKC dogs, lol). I don’t know if we have the Continental Kennel Club in Canada, though.

Thanks all for the input, it is so hard to tell the puppy mills from the responsible breeders when looking on the internet. Even when you call they say all the right things. I think y’all just saved me a trip.

Thanks Aussie_ Dog, the Canadian Kennel Club will not be confused with the Continental Kennel Club now.
