Cookie stories were always a huge highlight of the magazine

I always laughed, and related to the many, many references of her mother’s befuddlement of her lifestyle. It’s just a phase…

Her book Plugly, The Horse Who Could Do Everything is very sweet, if anyone has young kids on their lists.

In case you hadn’t seen this

@2DogsFarm : That’s a great article! Our hunt hasn’t done a Thanksgiving Hunt for the last 5-6 seasons --I THINK due to the aging membership having “family commitments” – I LOVED the TDay hunt —my kiddos would ride out --I recall it being one of the best of the year! As for TDay Dinner --I told DH we could do it, but he’d have to help --instead he asked his sister if she would “bring the meal.” She did --I recall it was great --but it was the one and only time she ever did that --more work than she expected, I think. I hope you had a great TDay --our family got together (first time since COVID) yesterday! Fun to see everyone --but exhausting --my shoulder surgery seems to be draining my energy. But it WILL heal.

Foxglove, best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Amazing to think that the Cooky article was originally published in 1987, and still feels just as relevant today. Because… horse people.

There was one year for Thanksgiving when my mother was away visiting my older sister, who had just had a baby. And the rest of us tried to do the usual big turkey dinner without my mother there to be in charge of the whole thing. It was incredible to realize that even though all of us had observed and helped with the process all our lives, we had no clue how to do it on our own. How on earth were we supposed to get everything hot and on the table at the same time?!?

But we did not want to call our mother and bother her with silly questions all day. Eventually, I think her curiosity got the best of her, and she called to ask how things were going on the homefront. As I recall, I think we fibbed a little bit and said everything was under control so she wouldn’t worry. But I’m sure she wasn’t fooled for one second. Lol.
