cooler or travel rugs

I’m looking for a cooler or travel rug, something for my horse to wear while trailering some place respectable or for cooling out after lessons. A friend has the Moxie bamboo cooler which I like but I can’t find them anymore. Need it in a size 69 and under 100.

I am not the best on this but to me you are looking for two different products. A light weight shipping blanket and cooler… I have no memory of ever seeing a combination item as the intended use of each is different… of course I have been wrong before

I can tell you for day shows in the winter I will ship in a nothing special cooler under a stable sheet. We will go home in either the cooler under the sheet or cotton scrim under the cooler.

These are fei show jumpers.

There is nothing special about the coolers we use, or the scrims, although it does seem harder to find cotton scrims these days.

I recommend getting one with belly staps and one without. I’d get a stable sheet as well. And a cotton scrim. This will cover pretty much any shipping/warm up/cool down situation you might encounter.

If you are going to ship in it, you’ll want leg straps to keep it in place in case you encounter turbulence during the ride. Or use a stable sheet that stays in place. I found that coolers tend to shift around too much to use while shipping. If you have a lesson and need to ship home and your horse is still a little damp, use a stable sheet and then take it off when you get home. I have a Baker sheet that absorbs well, and if the horse is cooled out but still damp, I put that on to ship home. By the time I’m home, the sheet is wet and the horse is about dry and I can just put a dry blanket on.

I like the Rambo Newmarket fleece cooler. It’s really thick and heavy for a fleece cooler and well fitted for travel.

I love the Rambo Newmarket fleece but I find that it’s too warm to use most of the year here, even on a clipped horse. I typically use an Irish knit or a lightweight fitted fleece sheet (I have a couple of relatively inexpensive Weatherbeeta and Eous ones). I’ll layer it over the Irish knit or a scrim sheet if the horse is still damp and it’s cool out. My trailer doesn’t have back top doors, so if it’s really raining I just use a turnout sheet/ blanket.
