Coolest, most comfortable helmet

Hi there,
I am a hunter rider, dabble at eventing, and just started endurance (LD’s) this year. I have historically been horrible about wearing helmets except when jumping but am finally in the habit.

I have a Tipperary Sportage I am getting ready to replace. I have 2 complaints: it makes me look like a bobblehead, and the liner is not removable!

Other than that I’ve appreciated the light weight and venting. One thing I’ve always hated about helmets is how hot they get and subsequently how how my head gets.

I am considering 3: the LAS helmet, the UVEX helmet, and the Ovation Eclipse. I really want something that can go in the jumper ring as well as my endurance rides and either of these would fit the bill. The challenge is I’ve been able to try on the UVEX (fits like a glove and feels like nothing is on my head!) but not the Ovation nor the LAS. My tack shops do not carry those models.

Anyone have input/experience with the 3? My head is smallish and more long oval than round

Thanks!

Jenny

If the Uvex feels light and comfy why not just buy it? They look nice but pricey, a lot of the models look like sport helmets not suitable for showing but they have a couple of velvet covered more traditional styles.

I have a Tipperary Sportage and like how light and comfy it is but yes it’s a bit nerdy looking. My old show helmet is hot and if I ever showed again I’d buy a helmet just for that. I like the look of the UVEX helmets and am considering one.

I ride Endurance in a UVEX and love it. Fits very well and keeps my head as cool as it ever will be with a helmet on. Has many miles on it and has saved me from many evil branches…

I just got the Ovation Extreme

No more mushroom head, light, cool and good looking. Never found a bad review on it and I found that it was not all Ovation helmets just the Extreme that everyone loved.

I’m an eventer. In the summer in Texas I just can’t wear a skull cap.

I have a summer helmet. I make fun of it cause it looks stupid but it works.

It’s one of those Troxel Sport helmets in white. I also wear a bandanna under it when I ride.
Only $25-$30 bucks too. I don’t like the ones with the fitting dial at the back. They are less comfy for me.

Ruh roh. Opened this help only to discover my helmet makes me look like…a nerd.

I too use a tipparary sportage. I disagree that it makes me look like a bobblehead. IMO it looks more like I have an armadillo on my head.

It is comfy & cool to the point that I have reached up to scratch my head. I just don’t notice it any more

I have a Tipperary Sportage as well and my husband, while watching me ride, exlaims “what’s wrong with your head”? I say, “what are you talking about”? He says, “your head’s all flat in the back - did you fall”?

Yeah, well.
That ‘flat head’ you are jokingly referring to saved my bacon when I got bucked off onto a hard packed AZ dirt road that hadn’t seen rain in 6+ months & I hit the back of my head HARD. No other helmet would have provided coverage for that area of my skull. I still ended up with a concussion, but better than a fracture.
I know these helmets can take a little getting used to. You will notice how far down they come in the back at first, especially when 2 pointing or jumping. But you will notice wearing any type helmet at first.
I wear mine in 100+ temps with a visor & have no complaints.
ANY new helmet with vents beats the tar out of the old velvet ones.
