Cooling vest suggestions for hot and humid summers

Does anyone use one of those cooling vests with the ice/gel pack inserts? Any brand you’d recommend? I’m NOT interested in the ones you dunk in water and then depend on evaporation. I’m specifically looking for the ones with ice/gel inserts. I’ve searched Amazon and there are two that I’m considering but wanted to see if anyone had any real world experience/recommendations.

MIL is getting older and NC hot/humid summers are getting harder on her being outside helping with horse chores taking care of her horse (and who am I kidding…I’m not getting any younger either). We stuck our half frozen water bottles in our tank tops yesterday  to help carry them around with us and it actually seemed to really help keep us cooler. She’s a very fit but stubborn  woman and I’ve pushed her inside a couple of times this summer to force her to take a break from the heat. I’m about ready to rig up some of the small cube flexible packs I have with duct tape inside one of the safety vests I have and put that on her next time.

I did a search but nothing in the first few pages except the evaporating vests. If someone knows of a recent past thread please point me to it!

I have one by coolture that I got when I was taking medication that made me very heat sensitive. I like it well enough, but even if you’re strapping ice to yourself it doesn’t overcome the effects of humidity on skin evaporation. It’s still hot even if your chest is cool.

I found the frozen neck strap to be as effective as the entire vest and more comfortable. Also cheaper.

I chose the coolture because the inserts can also be microwaved and used for warming in the winter.

I have the sports vest. https://glaciertek.com
the inserts get Rock hard in fridge or a cooler. But i have the old style not the new style that is in squares. Works well. Worth the money. You know you’re hot, but it won’t feel as bad and you won’t swoon or get weak. I wish I could ride in it but the inserts are to hard to fall on.

You might want to search cooling vests for folks with MS…heat is a huge problem for MS sufferers and there are speciality products that work for riders, too

Thanks for the info so far everyone.

@soloudinhere Which Coolture vest do you have? I wish there were better pictures and info on the FlexiCool vest on their website. I’d also like to buy extra cooling packs and like that the cost of their extra packs don’t seem to approach the cost of the full vest.

Not a vest, but I just used this for the first time yesterday, and I liked it.

It’s the signature. The other wasn’t available at the time.
