You probably know this, but because Maisie was a pet that you and your dad shared with your mum, that you had at the end of your marriage, your emotions on Maisie’s loss are probably tangled up with the emotions of the loss of your mum and the loss of your marriage. That’s painful.
Your poor dad has the guilt combined with the loss. I am so sorry. It’s a hard thing to deal with, and people cope in different ways. He may want to wait a long time, or not, or get a completely different kind of pet, or none at all. Let him figure it out.
