Does anyone know how to convert grams to ppm? So if I add uckele poly copper poly zinc, it’s says 2.5g per 1/2 scoop copper. 3g per 1/2 scoop of zinc. What does that come out to in ppm per 1/2 scoop?
They’re not the same sort of unit. Ppm is a concentration, so a ratio of the amount of Cu or Zn in a certain amount of supplement. You can use ppm (if you know the units it’s based on, e.g. grams Cu per megagrams of supplement) to find the amount of something in a given amount of supplement.
I’m not sure. Just on container but says. 2.5G per 1/2 scoop. Then under it says 310 mg. I was hoping somehow know what ppm that is. It’s uckele poly copper and poly zinc
(310 mg Cu/2.5 g supplement)x(1000 g supplement/1 kg supplement) = 124,000 mg Cu/kg supplement = 124,000 ppm.
The above assumes I didn’t do anything strange. I’m not willing to disturb my cat by getting up for glasses or a piece of paper.
Ppm is parts per million and there are 1000 mg in a gram and 1000 g in a kg so mg/kg is ppm.
It doesn’t matter whether you have a scoop or the whole container or a 55-gallon drum of the stuff, the ppm stays the same, though the total amount changes.
Hope this makes sense.
Triple Crown has a handy unit converter that includes g/oz, g/kg, ppm, etc:
Using that, I think @Peggy is (unsurprisingly) correct. I’m a little curious why you want to know ppm though, because to me the important thing would be mg per serving? If you’re looking to add it up with whatever is in your feed, it would make more sense to convert the feed’s reported ppm to mg/lb, multiply that by how many lbs you feed, then add it to the mg in a serving of the Uckele supplement.
I’m trying to get close to what KISS vitamin mineral would be being if I didn’t have all the things already I would prolly go KISS route. So they gave 1400 ppm copper per 4 oz. I guess I’m basing me adding copper zinc to the KISS. He doesn’t get anything else. So he truly is getting hay pellets. Then copper zinc magnesium vit e selenium salt tri amino and whey. He is pssm2 and I wanted to try adding individual minerals that I know are low here so I knew what he was getting. I wasn’t sure if something in triple crown30 was setting him off. So I had copper zinc magnesium vit e elevate already.
Sorta haha ! I’m horrible at this stuff. So I don’t feed any bagged anything right now bc I’m trying to see if the tc30 and soy was effecting him. I have copper zinc elevate se (selenium) magnesium etc all already. My horse is pssm2 so I feel I can monitor him easier if I knew exactly what I was giving so I I was also hoping doing my own helps that. Hay around here least when I tested, is low in copper zinc higher in iron low in magnesium and selenium. I’m sorta basing my feeding or want to off KISS vitamin mineral supplement bc if I didn’t have all the singles (copper zinc selenium) I would feed KISS or give it a try. It’s just calcium then copper zinc magnesium vit a. I’m trying to get copper zinc by me adding it to match copper zinc in the KISS. or least that was my ideas. It has 1400 ppm of copper. 4911 ppm zinc. It’s a 4 oz serving per 1000 lbs so mine would get 5-6 oz a day I currently just add what’s on directions of uckele poly copper poly zinc being I believe there balanced together if u feed by directions. So I have been only giving 1/2 2.5g scoop copper 1/2 3g, zinc once a day.
So you are trying to basically mimic the serving amounts of Cu and Zn in KIS trace by feeding individual minerals - specifically the Uckele Poly Copper and Poly Zinc?
the label is cut off in the attached image for KIS, and the serving size is different when I look it up on their site, so I calculated the zinc/serving from your attached label at ~835mg zinc, and then the given serving of 285mg copper.
So to get 835mg of zinc from the Uckele product you would need to feed just under 2/3 of the included scoop (there are 223mg per gram, and it’s a 6g scoop). The poly copper powder actually delivers more Cu/suggested serving than KIS trace, so you’re pretty well set there - unless you want to mimic the ratios in KIS trace 100% in which case you need to get REAL precise and feed 2.29 grams instead of the suggested 2.5
I am. Yes. I’m trying to mimic kiss copper zinc levels with the poly copper poly zinc. Is it different? This is what shows up when I go to kiss and pelleted for original.
Well not real precise of course but as close as I can with copper zinc. But weird. What ones are u seeing? If I would of got kiss. I would get pelleted original.
If I weight out zinc. How much grams should i get close needing to match? I know u said 2/3 scoop of the scoop but curious what the grams would be to check?
I’m not really “up” enough on the various forms of minerals to say how/whether the forms of Cu and Zn in KIS differ from the Uckele stuff, but I’d say you can trust that they are both good!
For the Uckele Zinc, each gram contains 223mg of zinc. For Uckele Copper, each gram contains 124mg of copper. So to hit the 835mg Zn in KIS you’d need 3.74g of the Uckele product and to get the 285mg of CU in KIS you’d need 2.29g of the Uckele.
The ideal ratio of Zn:Cu is about 3:1, which is about bang on for the analysis of KIS Trace. If I were you, and already had the Uckele Cu and Zn on hand, what I would likely do is just feed the full suggested serving of copper (2.5g, which gets you 310 mg of copper) and then for the Zn I’d probably eyeball out something like a 3/4 scoop instead of the 1/2 scoop serving recommended.
Thank you.
I forgot I do feed remission to. Which has 100 mg of zinc.
