Love the comments. Spot on. I have had corgis in my life since one visited with a friend overnight years ago. I was a big dog person too. Corgis are kind of like Teddy, nobody told hem they are small. They are medium dogs with short legs. Short legs that go VERY fast I might add.
At one point I had 8 corgis in the house. 5 puppies in a litter and three adults. So much fun. I am now down to 1. My first corgi, Sam DA man, passed on last October. I miss him a lot.
My female made it clear she needed to be in charge of more after I left the marital farm and she no longer went to,work with me all day. She now runs a hardware store all day and a horse farm at night with my best friend. She loves it.
The other boy is not the brightest bulb in the box, but he is the sweetest. He came home with us because the bond he formed with my 18 month old daughter at the time was magical. He still is her “best Bernie boy.”
I will always have a corgi if I can help it. They are comedians who love life and make you do the same. I have heard them called " up down " dogs and I agree. You sit down, so do they. You get up to go somewhere, so do they. 2 of mine had the trick of sleeping with their head touching a foot. Hard to escape them with that kind of security. They also sound MUCH larger than they are from the other side of a door. Mine have been keen observers and only barked when they wanted to alert me. Bernie likes to alert because he heard a noise 1/2 a mile away but that is his only flaw. That and he refused to do agility with me.
I love corgis, but they are like chips. It is hard to have only one. I have found the females to be bossier and the boys more relaxed. I think I will stick to boys, but I sure do miss my heart dog, Moxie, who is now working two jobs in TN.
Oh, and as for the corgi shedding, get a furminator and brush AFtER he bath and dry. You will take off enough hair to make 3 other dogs. Don’t worry though, they will still shed 2 minutes later. :). I find the corgi fuzz gathers in corners and is easy enough to sweep or vacuum up. Martha Stewart I am not so it doesn’t biher me. Black is a bad idea though. Unless you like that “I have a corgi” look.
