Cost Effective Ring Lighting/Alternatives

Since the dreaded DST is upon us and I am a working professional, by the time I get to the barn and ready to ride, it is nearly pitch black. We do not have lights. There is an outlet by the ring and several trees at different points. I was thinking of getting solar flood lights to mount to a tree or two. Any thoughts? What have you guys used for a cheap fix for ring lights? Or any other alternatives to ring lights for riding in the winter? TIA!

If you use solar flood lights you’ll either have to switch them on and off or let them go on and stay on until they run out of juice. If there are no neighbors who would be irritated by the light they produce, not an issue. Otherwise might not be the best idea.

Is the ring fenced and are you going to ride alone most of the time? If all you really need to see are the “edges” of where you can ride, think about solar pathway lights. I buy them on sale end of the summer season (usually less than $1 apiece in boxes of 12) and mount them on fence posts along the otherwise unlit lane to the indoor. I remove the stakes and just use zip ties to affix to the posts. They provide enough light to show the way, don’t require any wiring and are not obtrusive.
