Cost of DeNiro Boots?

I was visiting a consignment tack store and spied a pair of custom DeNiro dress boots. I tried them on for fun and lo and behold, they fit perfectly! They’re almost 100% new - clean, no scratches, no wear spots, and the soles look like they’ve never touched a stirrup. The outer boots are the harder shiny patent leather material (I’m sure there is a fancier name for this!) with the inner zipper area having a softer leather. There is a custom stitched set of initials over the inner zipper, but not visible once worn.

The ticket price was $650 and my trainer said this was an “amazing deal,” and that these normally start at $1,200 without any upgrades. Is he correct? I know SmartPak and Dover have started carrying entry-level DeNiros in the $600 range, but these are definitely nicer than those. What have yours cost? Are these worth hopping on?

FWIW, I’ve never spent more than $200 on boots, so I’m out of my element here. Thanks for your input!

Sounds like the brushed leather. Prices have gone up in the past year. I would consider like new condition boots at that price with those features to be a good price.

If they are custom, that is a steal. If they are “off the shelf” then it is not. Last year at a show, they had some “clearance” boots at $1200 at a show (with all the bells and whistles). Not MY idea of clearance. $650 is about 1/2 off - if they FIT, and you like them, then I consider that a great find!

Depends on which DeNiros they were. Top of the line full custom is over $1000. My DeNiro Ottaviano field boots were “only” $800 Canadian. I do not care about a beach body, I just can’t gain any weight or I won’t fit in my boots anymore! It’s good motivation.

$1200 is about right for brushed leather with custom options.

Finding a pair of custom boots that fits?
It’s a deal no matter what!

Of course the value and cost in a custom boot is that it is made to fit you and to your design specifications.

That value isn’t present when you buy a custom item second hand.

Ironically though the boots probably never fit the person who ordered them and they fit you!

Perhaps you could send de niro a photo and ask them about cost?

As far as whether it makes sense for you to spend $600 on boots right now, that’s going to be between you and your bank balance!

I love getting nice things on discount, it makes me happier with the thing than if I paid full price  but probably these boots would be more than I personally would feel OK spending in my current circumstances.

If you are doing a lot of showing and wanting to upgrade your wardrobe, they might however be a great deal.

I definitely think that’s a great deal. Both my semi-custom (calf and height) DeNiros were no frills, no extras, and cost about $800 US each. I imagine the brushed leather starts at $1000.

I have two pair…1200 each. Love them.

Since they are at a consignment store, why not make an offer you are more comfortable with? Boots are hard to sell, you may get lucky!

Thank you for this great point! I was wondering if negotiating was a possibility or not, and now you’ve given me the courage to ask. Worst they can say is no
