This article is so cute, did not want people to miss it.
Gotta love a good horse.
Such a heart warming story about a fancy horse taking care of a little kid.
It’s such a sweet look at how some horses seem to have such empathy for small humans.
There were several in my childhood who tolerated me.
ETA and I loved them dearly. I think they knew.
Thanks @trubandloki! This actually brought tears to my eyes. When people think horses are not intelligent or don’t care, they are wrong.
Here is to all the incredible horses and ponies that have given us the grace to let us learn and become competent!
When I was reading the story and then saw that Julie Richards had be a part of importing and training this horse, it made total sense how good Cuba is with littles and is such a good boy. At that time, Julie had two small kids of her own in the barn. (I used to work for her and her hubs at Foxhall before it all went south). She runs such a relaxed barn, but expects the best and provides the best care. She really creates that desire for her horses to be her partner. It shows in all of the Fernhill horses she has worked with.
I love when a high power performance horse decides they also need to be a child’s pony (especially when they’re still ornery for the adults). Cuba looks like he’s absolutely the happiest boy ever with his pink sparkly toes, like he knows he has the most important job in the world now. He’s become a girl dad.
