COTH Article on Eq Horses

Tiramit, you applaud a magazine that “doesn’t check facts.” I guess we can all read the National Enquirer and believe whatever is printed.
One more thing that is wrong with this so called “expose” of the truth is that this particular family is wealthy enough to afford this sport. Her article might be ruining it for others that are not as fortunate. She can walk away “silently” to another pursuit and get bored with that and write about it, but for some having the opportunity to ride quality horses might be a once in a lifetime chance. The relationships between trainers and owners who lend their horses to aspiring juniors have helped many horsemen of today. And I hope that our commentary comforts trainers and owners to believe that this an unfortunate case and not the norm. Most juniors I know are always very thankful, and proud that their excellent riding helped bring profit to those that so generously lend their time and animals.

I don’t think you read my post very clearly. Perhaps read it again for comprehension?

If there isn’t an issue with eq horse welfare, why did Karen Healy et al form a task force? Surely they have better things to do than waste time talking about problems that “don’t exist”?

leyla25

Smart idea Mike but what about the business part? Trainers make a lot of money taking people to horseshows and grooms, trailers, etc.

There are so many other classes , we are only talking about one class , it would have no effect on a trainers or show managements bottom line. The only thing it would help is the ware and tear on the horses and it would equalize the playing field a bit at the same time , no more qualifing during winter circuits ,

Leyla25 and Mike~ Since the COTH didn’t fact check, why don’t you clear things up for us? What facts did the COTH miss? I double check OC’s claims about the horse’s schedule and it was easily verified. I remind you once again that during that fact check I also learned about the horse’s 2014 schedule, which doesn’t say much for the people that were supposedly thrown under the bus.

Have you checked the schedule of most eq. horses busylady? Because you will be shocked how much they show even those of trainers lauded here for their great accomplishments. I don’t want to argue this anymore. The trainers that win a lot and everyone thinks they are good trainers have to show a lot. It is how it works. They still care for the horses, and do their best with their care. One particular junior that everyone goes crazy about in this forum I don’t think missed a week of WEF(that is 14 weeks)
OC is very aware of that schedule since she has been competing for a long time and her family as well.
The sudden change smells of sour grapes. That is what we are trying to tell you. If you see it differently then it is your right. Enjoy your bliss.

WEF is 12 weeks. If you’re going to be in opposition at least get it right.

Haha I’m counting the spring shows or whatever they are called. But you are right and for the record I’m not in opposition just stating the facts and a reality check. Thanks for the correction.

Bingo.

It’s not a secret what the trainers do. We’ve all seen it, Olivia saw it firsthand. What can we do to stop it?

Instead of saying sour grapes or spoiled brat or COTH didn’t fact check, let’s say we figure out ways to get where the horses are safe.

Oh please, she was in the thick of it for many years. She did not just wake up and have an epiphany. If medal finals had gone the way she wanted, there would of been no article in COTH.

Come on Leyla, you’re so much fun to argue with because you pretty much make my point for me. Don’t you see, it doesn’t matter if OC is all sour grapes and bad attitude. I don’t care what her motivation was, she brought up valid concerns that clearly need to be addressed. You said it yourself, they have to show a lot, it is how it works. Well, obviously we need to change how it works.

Also, I checked the WEF schedule of one of our brightest stars right after I read the article, her eq horses were shown very lightly, only 2-3 weeks in a row, 2-3 classes per week. Apparently heavy schedules isn’t “how it works” for some trainers.

Anyway, you clearly want to bury your head in the sand and tell yourself the only problem is the child who wrote the article. That’s fine. I used to do the same thing.

Glad to be of help to you. Like I said before, enjoy your wisdom…! and I keep my head in the sand as it is cooler there.

I’m guessing you didn’t pass basic English.

Why the need to criticize someone’s English? Isn’t the welfare of the horses your main concern?

Yes. It is. And if you read my earlier post, you’ll see that is exactly what I am saying.

Actually I did, and I did it without being a B**ch. I was responding from my phone. Sorry you only focused on the the grammar and not on the message.

I sense a padlock is imminent.

Yes because those that call for focusing on the welfare of the horses derail to personal attacks. Bingo as some like to say here. That is exactly what the article is about. Unnecessary aggressive personal attacks.

Sour grapes or not, it brings to light relevant concerns about welfare.
