Some of these responses just reminds me of how elitist our sport has become, even at an entry level.

Elitist yes… but also expensive.

I remember when $600/mo full stall board was the Fancy Place that did all the As. Now that’s just over half the carrying costs for a horse at a basic barn with simple amenities and a single worker.

And? The sport has always been expensive. Making it even more prohibitive makes it elitist.

I mean… BOs realizing they can’t keep a program afloat unless they implement not unusual business practices (for example, semester tuition) that may prohibit some people from participating isn’t elitist to me. Practical, maybe.

Plenty of other areas in horse sport that ARE elitist (looking hard at USEF and USHJA). And plenty of programs out there ARE elitist, on that we agree.
