Cougar Kitten

No, I’m not recommending one as a pet.

The local zoo recently acquired, through certified Department of Conservation channels, a young cougar, estimated three months old, who is an orphan. She wouldn’t have a chance in the wild. They posted a video this morning of her progress. I love how “catly” she already looks, even if in miniature (relatively speaking) version.

Oh, yes, very regal. Ish. The fluffiness kinda minimizes it, tho

One of my favorite memes: “If I’m ever killed by a cougar, just know that my last words were ‘Here kitty kitty kitty!’”

@Alex_and_Bodie_s_Mom you reminded me of this wonderful post from the Washington state DNR Twitter account…

I’d love to take a day and go see her, but she isn’t on exhibit yet. They only let her roam before hours. She’s had a rough few weeks and is still getting used to her new home.

They do have a cougar exhibit already. They lost their senior male recently after a long life. Still have a female, but they are going to introduce them slowly.

"IF you encounter a cougar:

  • NEVER approach or offer it food. You are NOT a Disney Princess."

OMG!

But seriously, what do they mean I’m not a Disney princess? I know all the words to “Let It Go.” And ALL of Hamilton.

I love it! So cute!

The Oakland Zoo helps with mountain lion rescue and rehab and they’ve done several cubs. In 2020 they rescued Cal, Poppy, and Goldie who now have homes in Ohio https://www.oaklandzoo.org/blog/captain-cal

And right now they have Hazel and Holly who will move to a permanent home in the next few months now that they are recovered and acclimating to being in a zoo home https://www.oaklandzoo.org/blog/holly-and-hazel

Unfortunately all were too young to have learned life skills needed to be able to return to the wild. I love following the updates on them on the Oakland Zoo’s social pages

I have been following both Hazel and Holly’s progress. I’m glad they were rescued and can go on and live good lives with plenty of care and love.
